Feb 22, 2007 — New research indicates that unhygienic male and female circumcision practices in eastern and southern Africa may transmit HIV, announced a press release issued by Interdisciplinary Scientific Research.
Not only does it NOT prevent HIV/AIDS, but is likely to increase the possibilty of contracting and transmitting STD's of all sorts.
Men who are circumcised are less sexually sensitive and therefore also less likely to use condoms on a regular basis.
CONDOMS have been shown to reduce the risk of STD transmission by 80-90% (WHO).

The problem with circumcision in Africa is that it has long been suspected of transmitting HIV. A new study shows that circumcised male and female virgins are three times more likely to be HIV infected than uncircumcised ones. Among adolescents, regardless of sexual experience, circumcision was just as strongly associated with HIV infection.

Using circumcision as an AIDS preventative might backfire. Health officials are cautioned to look before they leap.

Thank you Madalena & lauren for all the statistics & info.. I have learnt something new.. The alarming rates of people in Africa who have HIV is already at a very dangerous point.. We should be looking for ways to tackle the problem instead of encouraging circumcision that only worsen the issue..
