SALEM - A Peabody mom accused of murdering her “miracle baby” was ordered held without bail today after an abbreviated superior court arraignment.

The brutal details of the alleged shaken-baby case were not divulged after Jennifer Ward’s attorney told the court he was not prepared to proceed.

The arraignment was continued to Wednesday, when the prosecution intends to spell out how Ward reportedly killed her 9-month-old girl.

Family members of Ward told the Herald today the child, Jocelyn Ward-Anderson, was a “miracle baby” because the mother was 37 years old and had attempted to have a child for a long time.

The child was born in February and died Nov. 21 at Children’s Hospital, where she was transferred after her mother took her to a local hospital for head trauma, prosecutors say.

The Department of Social Services took custody of the child last year following a neglect complaint, but the baby was returned to Ward.

The baby’s grandmother told the Herald earlier this month that she had temporary custody of the child during one of the periods Jocelyn was removed, and was dumbfounded by the baby’s death.

This is very sad - obviously the mother of the baby has problems and needs treatment and should not have gotten the little one back. For the little soul - at least she is at peace now - how absolutely dreadful for her to be shaken, shaken, and shaken until she died - absolutely not acceptable. Peace

We had a similar case here in lincoln recently. I am having difficulty understanding why they shake the children so roughly. It is a shame.

So many people want children and can't have them, and some that have them abuse them. This is injustice.
