Nuvia, pregnant with 8 years old, has delivered a baby. 220 girls, between 12 and 14 years old, waiting for the fruit of ferocious rapes. The cases of young abused children by relatives are counted by dozens.

Yes - But What!! These girls obviously mature very early and this is the way they live - to us it is horrific because we see our own children of that age - but to these peoples in these countries - it seems to be their way of life and who are we - to go marching in there and tell them what they can and cannot do - isn't this how wars are started?????? Yes I agree it is a shocking and sad thing to happen - but that is the way they live.

Dear Jacqueline, I disagree with you. Have you ever been to Peru? I lived there for 20 years and I can tell you for sure this is not their way of life. No one is asking you to march in there. Is that the only way you think problems can be solved?

First:
One thing that is happening is that because of all the pseudo estrogens in the environment scientists know that many girls are maturing earlier ( all over the world ). Soon this will be more of a problem world wide--- the ability to get pregnant so young. This is very dangerous to the girl involved because her body is not grown enough to be ready for this yet.
Second:
Because of this more abuse that might have been going on before has become easier to spot because now these girls can and do get pregnant ... previously far fewer of them would have been able to get pregnant as they would not have been through puberty yet.

Yes this is a big problem -- both the rape --- and early puberty. I'm not sure what we can do about either in the short term. In the long term we need to clean up our environment and stop dumping more hormones in the system. Also tighten laws re: rape of children!

Enacting capital punishment just may be one answer, in lieu of "smacking the hands" of the guilty person, I say, castration would be a good solution. It is something that should be done here. I am so sick and tired of paying taxes and suporting criminals in prisons. They're better off than a lot a people on the outside, they get free medical coverage, free dental, free room and board, not to mention the recreational luxuries they're given. An eye for an eye is what I say. I am not being imcompassionate, on the contrary, I am a very compassionate, caring, and considerate individual. It just sickens me to see people that kill, rape, and abuse other fellowhumans practically getting away with what they done by spending time in prisons that are costing us taxpayers billions of dollars, where's the justice in that? What about the families of the victims, they're even paying to support the individuals that killed, raped, or abused their loved ones.

This may be the way they live, but that doesn't make it right any more than slavery was right because that was the way they lived. Pressure needs to be put on the Peruvian government to do something about this.

It is heartening that the rapist men are being sought for prosecution and not, as in some countries, the victim. By this, I mean that a pregnant raped woman in some Muslim countries would be stoned. The problem of pedophilia and rape combined is horrible. I only hope that effective measures to stop this horrible abuse of poor girls and women can be enacted soon.

I don't think this is about culture. This is about an assault, on people, living in poverty also with no education. They can not do anything about it or at least they believe they can not because of lack of education. These men just prey on these young girls and women. It is wrong! Also Just because they mature early does not make it right that these girls get raped like this. Rape is not a part of a culture even if it just excepted as a fact of life. It is just violence plain and simple, because so many perpetrators believe they can get away with it. I hope they can stop this.
