Sea Shepherd's Swedish First Officer, Peter Hammarstedt, is a great example of what to do while being interrogated.

Last year, Peter was arrested when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) boarded the Sea Shepherd ship Farley Mowat in international waters. Peter, along with Captain Alex Cornelissen of the Netherlands, was charged with the "crime" of breaking the seal protection regulations by approaching, witnessing, and documenting the killing of a seal.

In Canada, it is a crime to witness or document the killing of a seal by a licensed seal killer.

Peter and Alex were each interrogated for four and a half hours.

And during that time, Peter and Alex said absolutely nothing in accordance to the rule: Nobody talks, everybody walks. They also refused to sign anything in accordance to the rule, Nobody signs, everything is fine.

Peter and Alex were unable to attend their trial last month in Nova Scotia because they had been previously deported and banned for life from entering the country. As a result, the trial went ahead without them, and their bail will most likely be forfeited.

By banning the two crewmembers from the country, the Canadian government was able to avoid the embarrassment of a legitimate trial with a defense. The sentence of deportation for life was given to Alex and Peter a year before the trial. We have included in the video a couple of the more humorous moments from the interrogation of Peter Hammarstedt. And remember, Peter and Alex each sat through four and a half hours of this comedy until the Mounties finally threw in the towel.

I'm especially amused by the Mounties comparing the documentation of the seal slaughter with Muslim terrorism.

In viewing this, please keep in mind that a Mounty need not have more than a tenth grade education to qualify to be a member of the RCMP. Another interesting factoid about the Mounties is that Disney owns their image. Every time a Mounty uniform appears on television or in a movie, Disney gets a cut of the appearance fees.

In this video, Peter Hammarstedt demonstrates the perfect response to interrogation. He simply said and did nothing.

I love that last question: 'Does your organisation have a website? I'm not even certain of that...' What an absolute moron!!! I love this tidbit of the video Claudia. Shows you what happens when brutality and duplicity walks slap bang into the wall of 'brains'. Peter Hammarstedt and his team mate are Heroes.
Thanks for the news. Noted.

How odd it is for the RCMP becomes a lap dog for the US Government. After eight years of Mr. Bush, I can easily see how Canada doesn't want to have a confrontation with our "mighty" right. Who does. Why does the great country of Canada create the law that says documenting those with the license to kill is a "crime?"

Now who are the badguys, and who are the good guys? Hey, Canada, when did you start kissing the ass of the wealthy?

The officer who parked his enormous butt opposite Peter said "You must be vastly more intelligent than I am". That was the only thing he said that made any sense.

Canada has been kissing the ass of the wealthy for years! Take Stanley Park and Coal Harbor area in Vancouver for instance, That area was home of a village of Native families until the time when the rich people got tired of walking past "the slum" to get to their Cricket Pitch!!The families were forced out and all that is left are totem poles that are not even reprecentive of the the Coast Salish!!!! Now there is just one finally put up to fill that void.

Wow I needed a good laugh tonight and Claudia your short video gave me a few!! All I kept thinking was, "is this for real", "is this really the best they've got!? Somehow the RCMP doesn't look quite so formidable anymore, nor have they done themselves or Canada much good with this sorry excuse for an interogation.
Somehow from now on I will be seeing Dudley DooRight when the RCMP are mentioned and Peter as a bigger than life figure. The questions and comments of the "mounty" were so inane, and devoid of any sense of what he was talking about, that you really had to wonder at his training. Not to belittle his 10th grade education possiblity, but that interogation did point to an under achiever.

Thanks Claudia for the story and video, and to everyone's spot on remarks, I can feel myself still smiling and dare I say giggling?!

Well, that interrogation looked pretty Monty Pythoneseque.

I actually found the remark about the "Palestinian" quite racist though.

Precious, I've seen morones before, but these guys take the cake, haha, absolutely brainless. Good for you sea shepherds for maintaining your cool when being confronted by such stupidity.
Not to mention a law that penalizes the brutal slaughter of baby animals, unbelievalble, sometimes I'm ashamed to be Canadian.

The "Conservative" party and it's self-made emperors, including our present (pardon the expression) leader, have, since after the Trudeau government, been following their colonial masters (now the USA) devoutly. Past Prime Minister Mulroney (now being tried for taking bribes while in office - duh - was a "Bush- baby", embarrassing himself with his fawning behaviour when taken on a fishing trip. P.M. Harper (I call him mini-Bush) was called Steve-o by W and sold us out by agreeing (illegally) without even consulting Parliement, to the new 'plan' for 'protecting' North America by handing over all rights to the US who can enter our country and set up any kind of army/navy/air force base anywhere on our soil. Any 'request' by the previous adminstration seemed to be 'honoured'. We do not have the Constitutional protection that Americans have. A Majority government can do whatever it wants regardless of public sentiment (and is doing so) for their term, which can be as long as 5 years, and they decide when it ends. Harper locked out the other parties and shut down government for 3 months during a world money crisis because they were going to vote against him and form a coalition (like those in so many other Western countries) We are not really a democracy. That makes me ashamed. People are so forgetful and alienated from politics that they have all forgotten that Harper was a local politician in a Party as small and extreme as the Separatists: the Reform Party, which they still are, they just stole the name of another less right-wing party when it was destroyed by the worst leader a democracy ever had, Mulroney, who sold us out to Everybody. So the cod disapearred, so the seals get slaughtered, so we become pirates by going into international waters to capture a ship. How do you deport someone who isn't a citizen and was not even IN Canada when they supposedly broke the "law". The US probably told our government to never admit that Lyme disease exists, and they have been Good Boys: no one can get treatment for Lyme disease in Canada and any doctor who treats it is 'witchhunted' like Dr. Kropp, who came here from Poland some 30 years ago to live in a 'just' society, a 'democracy'.....it breaks my heart to see my country, that my ancestors came to 450 years ago, or 50,000 years ago (a large part of French Canadian heritage is First Nations), being sold out and loosing the respect/admiration of the rest of the world. It was one of our Prime Ministers, Pearson, who won a Nobel Peace prize for starting the United Nations, our soldiers who where the Peace troops around the world. Now we go where the US tells us to: Afghanistan, where our soldiers get killed with sickening regularity. OK I guess that you can all tell that I am not happy with the state of MY nation.....

What is wrong with people. This just shows how far we went as far as our rights are concerned. I am not sure there is a video on Petco about china fur trade. It was the most gross video I ever saw. But it will shake you inside to see what people killing animals get away with. While if you hit your dog they will take it away from you. I wish there was a better way to go after the Governments and stop it. I hate to say theses things will be on us soon. Is anybody keeping track how many underground prisons are being buil inside the US. How can people that work on the sea Shepard be the ones to blaim, While the sick people on the ships doing the killing get away. Does anybody in power have any morals at all. I will. T-Hawksblood

Keep up the great work Claudia and I just can't say enough about your efforts. To care so much for beloved Captain Watson's wonderful organization is a testiment of the great heart you have. If the day ever comes and humanity wakes up and realizes nothing is more important than Cetaceans and all life we share our amazing earth with, then maybe we can then rest easy. All it takes is for mankind to realize whats most impotant in this life is not made of paper.
