On June 21, 2013, South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region marked the summer solstice with an annual festival with the sole purpose of eating dogs. It is estimated that over 10,000 dogs were killed on this single day to feed the thousands of people

i'm much disgusted, too.

Pigs taste much better, don't they ? And beef is best, of course, except for veal.

There's an estimated 5 to 10 million 'pets' per year euthanized in animal shelters in the United States of Amnesia alone, who (pardon me: which) probably do not feed anyone at all ...
They might find it difficult, over there in Asia, to keep up with such impressive numbers.
--
And then, right now --as any day of the week-- there's no less than 5,000 TRUCK-FULL of (frightened, suffering) animals on US streets [plus a similar number on EU's streets] --creatures (most of)whose date-of-execution was already set before they were 'born' ('produced' may be a better description)-- heading for their SLAUGHTERing, mostly to fuel humans' oldest and strongest addiction: meat (some also to go into 'pet' food...) -~ TheAnimalHolocaust - a highly inspirational speech by ACTivist Gary Yourofsky, recorded summer 2010

Local officials claimed the dogs served at the festival came from farms where they were raised for consumption

Strange I didn't even click "submit" --- raising dogs for consumption is supposed to make this okay?

To repulsive to consider.

Terrible article, I couldn't even read it with all the pop up advertisement on it. Worse that has ever happened to me.

I know that cultures vary, some people will eat cows other places will not, some people eat grub worms and other people will have their stomachs turn. I see someone's pet, I could never eat a dog and I'm not sure why this area or Country don't at least view these four legged animals as pets. China is a Country that has modernized, they are sitting there with motorbikes, nice table and decent clothes on, I don't understand why they can't move towards eating something else.

I signed Petition that Nancy presented and I've signed other petitions too. I hope that there are people in China that are trying to change this eating of dogs. It will require the masses to find it unacceptable, otherwise they will ignore our pleas and continue on.

Oh dear God, I want to be sick, I want to run amok in China and behead the bloody lot of filthy wicked scum. What purpose do they serve on this earth, what value are they adding to make the lives of animals better - nothing, therefore they do not deserve to still be on earth. I cannot tell you how much I hate and despise them, they are disgusting nation. I hope that those poor dogs died without suffering and that those evil bastards that ate them die of rabies or some other disease. It is unforgivable and I for one would never show this nation any mercy or compassion - they lost that right a long time ago.

I can't understand.. I just can't. I know there are a lot of atrocities committed in China and it's unbearable.... But.... in Europe and in America , there is every day the awful slaughter of horses, pigs etc in slaughterhouses.
This makes me sick sick sick too :*-(

I just can not understand how people can be so cruel to so many animals and than sit down and eat them, but people do that everyday in this country to cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys and etc. I do believe this in China really stinks and the people taking part in this are really sick. People unfortunately see farm animals as food, but dogs are seen as pets, it is very wrong, including eating farm animals. I am trying hard to avoid anything made in China to boycott, but it is really hard, everything seems to come from this land of cruelty. I agree, with Leslene Dunn, well said Leslene. Thank you.

Just heart breaking! People that are so removed and alienated from other sentient beings' suffering are frightening and what they can do is truly evil and yet they don't seem to get the horror of what they do! I pray every day that these people will wake up and have an epiphany of how wrong it is to participate in such evil!

At least "Animal rights activists from all over the country have descended on Yulin to protest at dog-eaters." Hopefully this tradition dies soon.
