The people are calm, peaceful and helping each other and doing the best they can under the circumstances. In some places those conditions are - as of 9 days after the storm - no electricity, no potable water, no local food supplies, destroyed housing...

People who live near or on the beaches live with the threat the ocean may want to take over it's property now and then. With global warming---more beach-front is disappearing anyway. ...ask those in Florida who live on the ocean.
I remember this weather-channel's program....IT COULD HAPPEN which it featured NYC in one of their documentaries.
Some people inherited their property years ago and are just middle class, some people are well-to-do.
But a loss is a loss......and living without electric myself for days....relying on shelf-food or donations.....I know what that is like and I never lived on the beach.
