Vegans have lower bone densities than non-vegans, say Australian researchers. But the news isn't all bad, with the study finding an animal-free diet doesn't translate into more fractures.

I'M VEGETARIAN, and working towards being vegan...that's very important to me.
I'm wondering why vegans have lower bone density than non-vegans, and why they don't seem to have more fractures anyway...I'd already been dx'd with osteoporosis before being vegetarian, and the cause seemed to be that I'd had cancer. I'd like to know what the deal is.

What are the calcium sources for vegans and how do they get vitas B6 and B12 other than synthetics? Synthetics wouldn't assimilate as well.
