Given the scale of human suffering, dire medical conditions, and known solutions to the problem, international aid organizations face a global health imperative in addressing Haiti's cholera epidemic.

Target: United States Agency for International Development, World Health Organization, UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon, US President Barack Obama, US Congress Members

Goal: Reinstate funding to continue Haitian humanitarian efforts, latrine drainage and maintenance services, and treatment for people infected with cholera

In just one year after cholera debuted in earthquake-ravaged Haiti, it has sickened nearly 5% of the population and killed more than 6,000 people. With more than 450,000 Haitians suffering symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, rapid heart rate, skin inelasticity, low blood pressure, muscle cramps, and severe dehydration leading to death, the year-old outbreak hovers on the edge of becoming the leading cause of death by infection disease in Haiti and it has already surpassed the largest cholera epidemic in the world (previously the 100,000-300,000 cases annually documented in Bangladesh). The United Nations (UN), World Health Organization (WHO), and US Agency for International Development (USAID) must take immediate action to treat the infected patients and rectify the structural violence afflicting Haiti.

Of the billions that have poured into Haiti the money is not filtering down to the people. Far too many are living shabby tents, with little food and waste build up just outside the tents. Of course there is cholera, and now that the "crisis" of immediacy has past few seem to care.
