A TRANSFORMATION in our Boreal Forest would mitigate global warming and prevent the extinction of woodland caribou and other threatened species. And it would position Ontario's forest industry to capture the rapidly growing market of green forest products. Ontario's Boreal Forest is one of the largest remaining intact ecosystems in the world. It is home to a vast array of rare and threatened wildlife and clean sources of water. It also stores a tremendous amount of carbon in its trees, soil and peatlands. Studies indicate that intact Boreal Forests, when left undisturbed, store up to fifty percent more carbon than even the best managed forests. Preserving large intact areas of Ontario's Boreal has the potential benefit of preserving species and offsetting the damaging effects of global warming. But the Ontario government needs to act now to take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity. Show the world just how green Ontario can be. From books to lumber to office paper, let's build a reputation for environmental products from Ontario. Keep your promise. Protect Ontario's Boreal Forest. *** Thankyou, thankyou Premier McGuinty!!
