This is horrendous! Tsvangirai himself is injured and in hospital. It may very well have been an assassination attempt:

From the post-
"UPDATE: The New York Times has further details on the suspicious nature of the car crash that has taken the life of the wife of Zimbabwe's prime minister, especially given the various attempts on Morgan Tsvangirai's life in the past; however, they report that Zimbabwean officials still refuse to make any insinuations of foul play. From the Times:

Mr. Tsvangirai was heading to his rural home for a Saturday rally when the crash occurred Friday afternoon. From his hospital bed in Harare afterward, he told one of his aides that a large truck driving on the other side of the road had come toward his Land Cruiser, the middle vehicle in a three car convoy. "What he told me was that the truck went for his car," said Dennis Murira, director of public affairs in the prime minister's office. "That's how he put it."
...

The crash, coming less than a month after Mr. Tsvangirai was sworn in as prime minister in a tense and long-negotiated power-sharing government with his rival, President Robert Mugabe, stirred deep suspicions in his party, but most officials were careful to say not enough was known about the collision to make any accusations of foul play."

If Tsvangirai said that the truck went for his car, it must be so!
My heart goes out to him, at this time of grief. How much can one person bear? OUT with Mugabe!

This is truly sad...I do hope this country manages to recover from all its been through. Its such a beautiful country, the wildlife is --was--incredible. I wish Zim all the best for a very good and better future. I have lots of friends -family who lived there.Plus I have visited many times, many years ago.

I am providing a link to Rodger's 'EarthTimes' post of this, because there is additional, vital information, for example:

"MDC member Eddie Cross said that an early investigation team despatched to the site immediately after the accident, reported that the front left tyre had a blowout. "They were taking videos and pictures and then the police came and arrested them, and took their videos and pictures," he said. "We don't like that."

One can only wonder that even with Tsvangirai in the position of Prime Minister, his fellow MDC members and sympathizers are not free from police harassment, and even in the case of trying to investigate and gather evidence on this tragic road accident.

The 'power sharing' deal is total hypocrisy and may yet get Tsvangirai & others killed.
