This is terrible..how could anyone be so Stupid to believe that an online thing like this was true. I hope everyone who took and trashed her home feels guilty and returns her possession as they found them. This is a disgrace and just shows how dangerous the internet can be.

My neighbor is sometimes annoyingly nosy, but at least he would never allow anyone to do this to my home.

I can see how people would want to believe this is true. Most of us are familiar with FreeCycle, and most have had little of no problems. So yes, it would be a stretch. I wonder why none of her neighbors checked on what was going on. That is the scariest part, people (not here at Care2 of course) seem to feel they should mind their own business.

Yes Poppy it has become a world where people don't want to get involved. I remember a case here in Australia where a builder had just finished a house...and went to lunch. When he came back 2 hrs later everything, including the bath, stove, light fittings, sink...were removed and the neighbours saw a truck there and took no notice or action about it...they thought the owners were just moving in....some people see what they want to see.

This is appalling!! Do unto others.....Seriously what is wrong with neighbourly spirit, even just simple curiousity??? One would embrace the 'nosey neighbour' here.....................

As a resident of WA state, living not far from Tacoma where this took place, I can only say that it shows the depth of depravity of some people!!! This woman has lost everything!!! Even the kitchen sink . . . literally. The saddest part is that the hoax on this was posted on CRAIG'S LIST!!! An ad that invited people to go and take whatever they wanted; neighbors reported it to her, and the police!!! And the CEO of Craig's list initially refused to give information on the culprit who posted the ad.

This is a major tragedy; and I can only hope that the good people of Washington state, and the businesses that can help her rebuild her home, will step up to the plate as they have so many times in the past. I also think that Craig's list shoudl be penalised . . . perhaps we shoudl begin a peitition to force them to LOOK INTO THE ADS BEFORE THEY ARE POSTED!!!

Craig's list needs to do SOMETHING to prevent this from every happening to anyone again!!! It's a black eye for Washington State!

This story does not surprise me at all, My father passed away about 10 years ago and of course he was the smartest man i knew. About 25/30 years ago i was helping him in his garden just chattin about the world in general and he said things that just stuck with me all these years and this story reminded me of this conversation with him, He said that MANKIND is the only creature on earth that destroy's the soil he walks on or the air he breathes, MANKIND is the only creature on earth that will kill just for the sport of killing, He said there is NO low that a man will NOT stoop to in order to gain something for nothing. This story is just more proof that he was right. and the sad part is most of the people that did this dont or wont feel guilty about it.
