On the field, 15 horsemen beat and savaged one another for control of the beheaded goat that is the object of the game. Men whipped their horses. Men whipped other men's horses. Horses trampled spectators, galloped with eyes bulging....

I REFUSE TO PASS JUDGEMENT BECAUSE I SPENT TIME IN COUNTRIES IN WHICH SUCH THINGS ARE PART OF THEIR CULTURE. AND, I KNOW THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND MUCH ABOUT OUR OWN CRAZY CULTURE

How disgusting. No intelligent human being could derive pleasure from such a ridiculous 'sport'. Haven't they got any imagination to think a of a better way to spend their time?

Kathleen, just because it is their 'culture' does not make it right! And if anything in our cultures are just as sick it does make it right either! The torture of the defenceless is pure sadism, no matter whose @##%#% culture it is! Ughhhh..... One eyed is king in the land(s) of the blind....

Eureka, I did not comment on if its is right or not. Personally, I do not like it either. I'm just saying it seems too easy for outsiders to judge others without relevant knowledge or experience. As far as compassion, YES it is wrong. However, as with ALL cultures it is best not to infer meaning out of context.

I agree with you Kathleen, it isn't a practice that we can relate to, but then again they have no concept of an abattoir..!! It is so easy to prejudge..

In my humble opinion, there is no judgement needed with this subject. I believe this type of practice generates strong negative energy all over the globe. Life and Death in the "circle of life" is suppose to be a natural process within nature's laws which is of the universal laws. Human beings fighting over a beheaded animal, is unacceptable towards the global consciousness of eliminating violence and any unnecessary killing of any Life on this planet. Sadly noted and thank you

Wait - This is nothing - Soon there will be WOMAN in place of the Goat or Sheep- because according to their Holy KhOran woman are just a play thing for men. Reed what is happening ing Waziristan in Pakistan where Taliban are in control.BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BULLFIOGHT IN SPAIN AND OTHER PLACES? It is nearly the same. Spearing the bull to bleed and make it charge. As cuel as this one, Here at least the goat is dead. Whether it is a religious festival or a Game HUMAN BEINGS ARE THE MOST CRUEL CREATURES ON THIS PLANET.

Thank God I'm a vegetarian - I therefore do not help towards the profitablitly of an abbatoir - I went into one at the age of nine and have never eaten meat, fish, chicken or any other kind of bird since.

And Raja, I agree with you, just because there are issues in my 'culture' that needs nuking, does not mean I may not 'judge' any other horrific issues in any other nation's culture.

No one is perfect - that does not mean we have to suspend our 'judgement' in so-called hypocrital piety....

Female genital mutilation is also someone's culture - but a very sick culture - so is bull fightng, any culture that kills sentient life to satisfy their taste buds, and culture that uses animals for sport - and here I mean any animal sport - including horse and dog racing, and using animals for entertainment. Well this just about covers the whole globe,...

Yes, Dar D. these despicable acts do not generate any kind of healing for our planet - it creates a dense, unhealthy and unholy energy field around us.

And this note, let me go and 'judge' another horrific culture - see you around.

I also agree with Dar D.this practice can generate negative energy ..and I also agree with Raj..bullfighting and Taliban oppression are certainly worthy of condemnation, in fact, I believe they would probably generate much more negative energy than the Afghan horsemen..

(a) The goat is killed beforehand by cutting it's throat, the only difference is we do it behind closed doors in "facilities".
(b) Their horses are their livelihood and treated with care and respect, They would not understand why we kill and mutilate a healthy animal only to feed it to our pets..!!

My point is..we should clean up our own backyard before condemning a culture most don't understand..

..and perhaps be more tolerant of people with different points of view..!!

Eureka, these type of horrific acts..., don't need to be judged, because they are just wrong period, heh. To me, this is against our true human nature and the universal laws. Maybe I was misunderstood, but I meant that we all know as human beings what is right and what is wrong, when it comes to these type of atrocities. This is totally, against the harmony that humanity must achieve to experience true positive change. I guess I equate "judging" like, beauty contests, or American Idol. Everything else to me is an opinion of right or wrong.

Your reply was what I almost commented in response to Raja. Women are ALREADY in place of the Goat, in some manner, in certain regions of this globe. I commented the same disappointment in other news of the sickening "bull fighting" and "Darfur."

I respect all cultural and spiritual practices, as long as there are no blood sacrafices or suffering put upon another spark of life. We are a civilization that doesn't need meat nor animal fur, as we have discovered other options. However, I completely understand that there are some who are starving and homeless all over the globe, so I do understand survival. Never, will I understand these actions with entertainment or some ego driven reason, not matter where it happens in the world. Much Love...Namaste, dar
