Er.. I jsut saw he's alive.

I am glad the kid is going to jail. But 270-156 doesn't leave much. Judge could've managed a bigger sentence imo...

I am just glad to finally see jail/prison time finally being handed down to animal means progress is being made in how 'humans' value 'animals' as feeling and deserving of compassionate treatment.

I have been watching the updates on this case for awhile now. I wish this kid would have gotten a bigger sentence. I pray that Bob lives a long healthy life! I am sorry Bob, for what you had to go through.

I don't understand how this sick individual had pets of his own....including reptiles (an iguana and snake) and got the urge to mutilate and harm this'd think he would have had a compassion for reptiles, not want to harm them being he had his own. I wonder how he treated those animals until he was made to give them up. By the way, I think his sentence was WAY TOO LIGHT for what he did to that poor animal, and for the trauma he caused the little boy. He should have gotten a much harsher punishment.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Here we go again...lawmakers telling the world that animals do not matter and that you can be an evil piece of trash and still walk the streets. I am so SICK of people.

I agree his sentence was too light, but I also see so many cases where NOTHING is done to the abusers, maybe a little fine that they never pay, and too often horrid animal abuse is still a misdemeanor, considered nothing much more serious that a parking ticket. Little by little, the states that make it a felony and then act on it by giving jail/prison time is a move up for all the hard work done by animal activists.

Yesterday, along with publishing the 270 day jail sentence Mosqueda received for this heinious act, the Ventura County Star also told of the victim impact statement given by Dorothy Sullivan, the mother of an autistic boy who told of the fact that it was "Bob" the tortoise that got her son to speak for the first time and that he always talked to "Bob." Recently, however, her son and her husband, Bill have had their lives threatened. Also recently, the family's pet dashshund dog, Flapps was poisoned. She was told that she was going to be shot in the head and so would her defective child, she told Mosqueda at the victim impact statement. "My dog was killed..I held her in my arms and she died. Sullivan told the judge that "Bob" whom she described as a gentle giant was stabbed more than 22 times, his throat slashed and the bottom of his feet cut. "You did it in front of the neighborhood children," she told Mosqueda who lowered his head. "You threw Bob against a brick wall after you stabbed him." The Sullivans are looking for another place to live and want to move out of the neighborhood as soon as they can. Sullivan said she has had to pay $1000 for a security system. She said her son had a birthday Sunday but it was not safe to invite children over. "And why are your friends after us?" she aked Mosqueda. The Sullivan's had asked the court to allow restitution for over $1000 to treat the dog. Judge MacFarland, however, said that there is no evidence that Mosqueda had anything to do with the dog's death and denied the veterinarian fee. The Sullivan's were in court along with friends, animal lovers and activists. Sullivan gave the judge a petition with 3600 signatures asking him to give Mosqueda a harsh sentence. If the sentence he received is "harsh" I wonder what that judge would have given him without the petition!!! This guy will be fre to walk the streets in no time! as the 18 year old has already served 110 days of is sentence and has 55 days of "good conduct" jail credit. This is normal for Ventua County Jail, you get a third of your sentence thrown out if you do not cause prolems!!! This is an outrage!

It IS an outrage, indeed!
The family has been through hell, and of course it was Mosqueda's friends/family that murdered their poor dachshund and has made the threats! And what he did to's staggering to comprehend. The child's autism must be affected by the loss of their dog too, and Bob almost dying, and the stress from the threats! The judge is an @sshole and should be locked up himself! He doesn't seem to give a damn at all.
