Ricken Patels Quote on Female Genital Mutilation: To be honest, I don't think this issue is going to beat out climatechange, afghanistan, poverty etc for our members, so it's unlikelywe'll be campaigning on it soon. What do you think... how do the more than 3 Million Girls feel about this kind of support by AVAAZ?

The avoidable mutilation of whole female generations, with 200 million survivors living today at this planet - with 3 million victims every day and countless helpless girls dying day by day IS NOT considered "for AVAAZ to be a major issue facing... the world today?!"...SHAME ! This is not only cynical - but is showing so badly WHY there is NO CHANGE! Ignorance kills, guys!

FGM
is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of
girls and women. It reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes,
and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women. It is
nearly always carried out on minors ...a...nd
is a violation of the rights of children. The practice also violates a
person's rights to health, security and physical integrity, the right
to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and
the right to life when the procedure results in death.
How can Avaaz dare to compare this with CLIMATE CHANGE??????????????????

I am so dissapointed in AVAAZ. I've been supporting them for quite a few months now and I thought they were a very effective pressure and activism group but to here this is sickening. It is an important issue! Do AVAAZ not conisder rape and child abuse important issues either? War crimes and mass slaughter of innocent people? How many people have to be mutilated and killed before an issue is "a major issue" to you?! I am so very dissapointed AVAAZ, truly I am...

One Person Can Make a difference...GETS a complete new meaning if you look at this AVAAZ scandal!
If i would not know that the Avaaz Founder has been absolutely serious with this statement i would say this has been a misinterpretation..but this quote is 100% serious!
AND 100% DISGUSTING!

What you can do

Until now, PLAN International, World Vision, Kindernothilfe (Germany) and ChildFund Germany have not felt prompted to protect the sponsored girls from FGM. One reason for their ignorant attitude is the fact that donors mostly do not consequently demand the protection of their sponsored children.
As long as you, as a donor, accept the organisations' policy of FGM-tolerance and silently continue to wire money to their accounts, you encourage them to retain this policy.

But if you think that it's time for a change you can play an important part in this – and it does not cost you any money, but only a few minutes of your time and a few clicks:

Simply sign one, several or all of the following letters and send them to the board of PLAN International, World Vision, Kindernothilfe (Germany) and Children's fund CCF / ChildFund Germany.
By signing these letters:

- you call for the stipulation of the safety and protection from FGM of the sponsored girls in the preconditions for support for the communities,

- you call for a careful selection of the project partners, means that only those communities are supported who respect the most fundamental children's and human rights and and so proof their will to develop,

- you call for an investment of donations in the most economic and effective way.
