Great arcticle. This issue is so under the radar. I feel so out of the loop. I realize human trafficking exists, but HERE? I would like to help. Any information?

This is a very hidden problem, so the exploiters get away with it for long periods of time. It is good to remind us to be alert to suspicious behavior.

I have no idea how much human trafficking goes on in Australia. It is never discussed. Then again, we are not such an easy country to get into.

Julie Australia is a destination country for victims trafficked who are from East Asia, South East Asia, and Eastern Europe, particularly the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, and Thailand.http://www.humantrafficking.org/countries/australia
If anybody is interested in learning about there own country and trafficking see the Trafficking in Persons Report 2010 http://www.state.gov/g/tip/rls/tiprpt/2010/

Worth reading - I encourage everyone to make a note of the article...
e.g.
- Organize a fundraiser and donate the proceeds to an anti-trafficking organization.
- Join or start a grassroots human trafficking coalition.
- Encourage your local schools to include modern slavery in their curriculum. As a parent, educator, or school personnel, be aware of how traffickers target school-aged children.
- Meet with and write to your local, state and federal government representatives to let them know that you care about combating human trafficking in your community.
- Create and distribute public awareness materials such as t-shirts, posters, and public service announcements for radio. Or distribute already existing materials available...
