With oil now costing more than $110 per barrel and gasoline prices exceeding $4 per gallon in many parts of the country, it is popular to blame rising energy demand in China and India for the run-up in prices. Americans should instead look in the mirror.

Saw a Hummer today, unrepentant, unrecycled. 9 mpg - about .45 per mile here. It's cheaper to walk, if onr can see their shoes to tie them...

If a political candidate promised to levy taxes on energy use rising the price of gasoline to the current normal $7 to $8 per gallon (similar taxes on natural gas, coal, electric power etc.) and spending that on the huge infrastructure investment necessary to lover the US oil dependance - would that candidate then have any chance at all to be elected ?
