One Good Thing About This Lame Duck President

US Politics & Gov't  (tags: bushadministration, bush, government, farm bill )

President Bush isn't running for president again. He can't. And while there are millions of Americans well satisfied with that fact alone, it is proving to be useful in one very specific political fight this season: Reform of the Farm Bill.

The "Farm" Bill may be the only thing I agree with George W. Bush on.

Why doesn't Bush want to give rich agri-business owners subsidies? Is there a catch somewhere?

The FARM BILL is a constantly CHANGING piece of legislation, with clauses added, removed, altered -- almost on a daily basis. This makes it imperative for EVERYONE to be WATCHING THIS LEGISLATION CAREFULLY!

AgrCORPORATIONS are trying very hard to hold on to their Multi-MILLION $ Subsidies. While small farmers have to fight for every little BIT OF PROTECTION. Organic farmers, HUMANE PRODUCERS, THOSE FIGHTING AGAINST BigBROTHER/NAIS are watching this FARM BILL MORPHING on a daily basis.

Be careful, if you sign a petition which says: Please vote YES on "HR---"; On Monday it may support your view~~ On Wednesday, it may be COMPLETELY OPPOSITE, AND GO AGAINST EVERYTHING YOU BELIEVE IN!

This is a VERY INSIDIOUS PROCESS, and I can understand how some of our Good LEGISLATORS ARE TRICKED INTO VOTING FOR LEGISLATION WHICH THEY WOULD HAVE OPPOSED. If a bill changes from day to day - and they have to read tons of these bills - it may be very difficult to catch some of these changes.

HAVE YOU ALL EVER READ SOME OF THESE BILLS, OR READ THE CONGRESSIONAL RECORD? It is truly wordy, boring, tricky, writing -- filled with LEGAL JARGON and Antiquated language.

I am beginning to understand how complex this whole process is -- BUT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE!

I ask you - if you oppose Bush, do you eat too much meat (responsible for consumption of vast amount of fossil fuel), do you drive an SUV, do you have more than two children, do you oppose immigration except for adoption?

I thank Care2 for taking a stand. You have shown your support for eating vegetarian/flexitarian, encouraging people to use public transportation including Amtrak and family planning. I realize that immigration is only contributing to growth and development, which is what we are fighting the most.

I thank you for carefully going through this bill and taking it apart!

I would also like you to consider running for office. Your comments have shown me you have a better idea of what government should be than our current elected officials.
