Choose Nature Instead of Prozac for PMS and PMDD

Health & Wellness  (tags: PMS/PMDD, Prozac, risks )

It appears to be common to prescribe the dangerous drug Prozac for PMS- at least in the US, that is. Not only that, but it is evidently often prescribed not by the Psychiatrists but by ordinary ob/gyn doctors.

I don't like Prozac for anything and I darn well don't understand why doctors, in their right mind, would perscribe it to a patient for PMS or PMDD! That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard lately! LOL Prozac is known to be associated with suicide. I certainly don't recommend it. With all the new medications on the market, it's a wonder that Prozac is even FDA approved, anymore!

LOL Gorilly...!!!!

Whatever makes you the way you are, don´t stop taking it!! LOL!

Chelsee, doctors in their "right mind"...??!! OK, hold on, let me recover from laughing quite hard... Exactly, why would they? Because they don´t know a thing really, they´re paid by the big pharmas to sell their products, and they couldn´t really care less. People coming out of a "health centre" in Spain were asked whether the doctor had prescribed them a generic medicine or an expensive one from a big pharma brand, and the vast majority had been prescribed the brand one, when the generic one was just as good, in most cases identical. So what does that say about doctors' corruption?!

Always listen to mother Nature. She's the wisest doctor you´ll ever get.

I had PMD and took Prozac. It was a nightmare I will never take another antidepressant in my life. It only got better when I changed my diet and took Vitamins and herbs. Interestingly, a few years after I worked part time for a herb supplement mlm (was young and didnt know much) On a conference call they said Prozac was similar in structure to LSD. I didnt say anything but it confirmed my experience taking it, except Prozac was a nightmare of a trip. Thanks for posting this!

I know a lot of people that had a lot of problems with Prozac. Others that had no problems at all; in both cases the medicine didn't work. There got to be a natural replacement for prozac.

There is a herbal replacement and that is St John's Wort but not everyone can take it, Vitamin B complex can help with depression too.

My sister tried St. John's Wort but it didn't work for her. Vitamins help because she takes those regularly as everyone should. I've heard that lemongrass tea can help with depression and of course getting enough sunshine and exercise works wonders!

St John's Wart is good more mild depressive symptoms, more than PMS. I would recommend Evening Primrose Oil. I tried it for the first time last month, and it really did seem to help. I also agree Vitamin B complex is a good idea, for energy...

@1976 went to doctor for yearly checkup with only complaint of very bad moods about once a month (mini rages). "oh, that's 'water on the brain" -- about a week before periods some women's bodies accumulate extra water putting pressure on the brain. he gave me some DIEURITICS to take a week before my period for 5 days, and to cut salt way down because it retains water. Eureka, it worked. when i ran out of pills went to a health food store and started using 'herbal dieuritics' the only hard part is remembering to mark the calendar to take them.
Bottom line -- it's water retension causing pressure on the body.
