A new government assessment of coral reefs in the United States has grim news: About half of the remaining coral reefs are at best "fair" and at worst near death.

I'm so glad more studies about the health, or lack thereof really, of the coral reef ecosystems are being done. With a recent coast to coast diving expedition done by Philippe Cousteau a very wide audience will be exposed to their detrimental actions that negatively influence the world's oceans including coral reefs. I hope more studies are done and a plan of action is developed to save the beautiful reefs.

Alot of the bleach and other toxic household items(garden pesticides) reach our oceans unfortunately and attack our Coral reefs and marine life, etc., etc.,etc. Lets all try to do OUR little part and stop using them, every little bit IS ADDING UP. Thx Micheal! Personal responsibility will solve this thing in the long run, the ole "I'm just one person what can i do ?" just ain't cutting it anymore!

It is so sad that we are losing our beautiful natural wonders, one by one. You are correct, Serge, personal responsibility needs to be brought back in a big way. Sadly noted, Michael.

If our oceans are lost we are lost. Everything living is made up mostly of water right? Plus not to mention it covers like 80% of the earths surface. As this world pollutes and alters more of it's bodies of water I myself feel more and more polluted. Hmm what causes cancer? I would say it is a direct link to pollution and the contamination of our water.

Life sprung up from these oceans regardless if you don't believe history, scientists, scientific evidence, scholars, animal evolution or even the simple fact that humans evolve. It is the christian "god" movement that is slowing down the evolution of man for they believe they can pray and repent and everything will be saved and even if we don't take care of our home we will go to "heaven" and we will all be happy and content regardless of how miserable we make things for our children and their future.

No they have to save themselves and learn to face the music of being raised by ignorant people. Ignorance breeds ignorance. So spraying pesticides and ant killer all over the place killing gods creatures indiscriminitly is okay as long as you repent. The knowledge is out there and many still do ignorant things even if they know better thinking they will just repent and be saved. Not all god followers are this way but I would say 80% think and live this way. Do you think god would want you to hurt this planet and all his creations in any way, or do nothing to stop the destruction of them.
