I suppose that is a form of change. Instead of having separate railroad cars, segregated seating on buses, separate drinking fountains, and segregated restaurants, hotels, hospitals, etc., we just put as many black people as we can in prison. It accomplishes the same thing, but can be viewed as a form of progress.

Or am I much too cynical. :)

Cynical or not.... kind of sounds that way. It's wrong, should be the same for all. Thanks Michael.

No it's not being cynical Mark it's the truth.

Discrimination laws have forced the racists to use different methods of discrimination. This wouldn't just apply to minorities but also to issues of gender.

How many women have filed sexual discrimination only to lose their jobs shortly afterward or to face some kind of direct or indirect retribution?

Discrimination of all types is still alive and well in our society today. Society must continue to make a stand against it.

DISCRIMINATION IS BAD JUST TO START OFF WITH THE EOCC YOU NEED A LAWYER WHICH TO START OFF WITH IF THEY WILL EVEIN TAKE YOUR CASE IS $10000 AN THATS JUST TO TAKE IT TO MEDIEATION WHICH YOU MIGHT GET $1000 BACK OR YOUR JOB SO THEY CAN FIRE YOU AGAIN BELIEVE ME I KNOW. I WAS SUSPENDED ON GROUNDS OF TERMINATION BUT BEFORE THEY COULD FIRE ME I FILED FOR DISABILITY I HAD SIGNED UP FOR WHICH WITHE DOCTORS NOTES THEY COULD NOT DENIE. THEY THEN FIRED ME BUT STILL DRAWING DISABILLITY FROM THEM. TRIED THE DISCRIMINATION THING HAS TO BE DONE BETWEEN 180 DAYS AND 300 AFTER THAT YOU HAVE NO CASE. SO THE COMPANY JUST REFUSES TO ANSWER YOUR LAWYERS LETTERS TILL THE TIME IS UP AND YOU DONG HAVE A CASE .DISCRIMINATION CASE IS HARD TO GET UNLESS YOU HAVE A PRO BONO LAWYER OR AN ACTIVIST WILLING TO STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS ME I WENT IN THE BACK DOOR. AND GOT WHAT WAS COMING TO ME

I would like to state that years ago when I lived in N.Y. I knew of at least 3 different cases of a white person being arrested for having drugs. One was the son of an attorney in my neighborhood. Another was the daughter of people who lived just a few houses away from me. They were shocked when they found out she had been arrested for having a needle and some illegal drugs on her and she was locked up. I told the mother to call the attorney in my neighborhood because I had heard about his son and I figured he would know how to handle it and he would be sympathetic since he had gone through the same thing. I then heard of another case which involved another son of someone in my neighborhood who was also arrested for having drugs. I don't know what the results were in any of these cases. However I want to point out that there was a family next door to me that consisted of a husband, a wife and four daughters. They were white. One of those daughters who I had known when she was growing up got addicted to drugs when she was older. She had been a very sweet child. I was not their neighbor when I heard the story of her murder. It made the news. It seems that because of her addiction to drugs she became a prostitute. Her parents did not know where she was. She was over 18 at the time. It seems that some guy decided that all prostitutes should be killed. He killed over 20 different young women and she was one of them. She might have been helped but he made sure that would not happen. My point is that some times it might be better if they are arrested. I just think that they should not just be thrown in prison, but they should get treatment for their drug addiction.

black people were the original american currency. the purpose of wealth is to insulate a minority from the will of the majority, so the ideals of the old south have survived in many households. as the prison system beceme more & more profitable the incarceration of ethnic peoples followed the manifest destiny agenda this country was founded on.

looking deeper however, you see that white birth rates deeline as white cancer rates increase in america. if people of color were left in peace and provided equal education the balance of power would shift so radically that reparations would be on the menu for every fortune 500 in america, black people wouldnt straighten their hair and Obama wouldnt have to strain the moderate position in order to get elected.

drugs being illegal gaurantees vast amounts of untraceable money for "legitimate" & illegitimate organizations to sponsor the current state of the world.

Peace

Thank you Michael. All people of color have a much higher chance of
being incarcerated for a drug offense with Blacks having the highest
rates.

You are so right in that discrimination is alive and well, and yes, certainly for women too. But again, especially for women of color.

Cheeze Esther....the best way to handle most drug offenses is with
rehabilitation, not incarceration! Incarceration does not offer rehab
and the offender is very likely to come out with the same problems!!!
(Prison isn't a place to send people for protection!)

Marian, that is what I stated. I stated that they might need to be arrested to make sure that they are forced to receive the help they need to get off their addiction. If a person is addicted they may not be able to get rid of their addiction on their own. I did not mean that they have to be in prison to get that help.
