Baking soda and vinegar are natural ingredients preferable to the manufactured chemical Sodium hydroxide. Sodium Hydroxide is the active ingredient in standard drain cleaners. This chemical is dangerous to whomever it touches.

My plumber told me a person should not have a garbage disposal as they are the cause of so many problems. Throw your food scraps in the trash or freeze until trash day and toss out. Fill your sink up to the very top with water and then let it drain out, do this every month to wash away debris that will build up over time. Noted, thank you Michael.

You are NOT going to believe this . . . our bathroom sink is stopped up. And I'll let you know how the vinegar/baking soda works!

Thanks, Michael.

I have been dumping baking soda down my drains for years; this is an old trick I learned from my mother. Her family of 9 was waaaaay too poor to be able to afford ready-made store preparations so they used home remedies and preparations that have since become manufactured products, albeit filled with chemicals.

For example, my grandmother taught my mother, who taught me, to put fresh thin slices of cucumber on the eyes to take away that tired look. Now go check out the "beauty" shelves and see how many cucumber lotions and creams there are. You don't need all the additives - just lie down for 10 minutes with the cucumber slices on your eyes.

My mother grew up brushing her teeth with baking soda and salt and a smidgen of peroxide. She always had the whitest, most beautiful teeth. She's now 87 and still has a great smile!

Noted, thanks Michael. I will have to try this. One of by bathroom sink drains is full of sludge, and this just might be the trick to get it clean rather than using water and a plunger to get the water to drain normally.

Sometimes the only thing that will work is sodium hydroxide.

This is the BEST! I tried it for a slow draining kitchen sink-awesome! It worked so well, that I now do this every 30 days. I spread the word to friends who now do the same. THANK'S! :)

Great idea! I also use baking soda to scrub sinks, bathtub and toilet instead of the commercial gritty stuff with Clorox. You can use vinegar to kill weeds around patio stones or boiling hot water or a combination. Thanks Michael.
