Kids are coming out younger, but are schools ready to handle the complex issues of identity and sexuality? For Larry King, the question had tragic implications.

No one has the right to take someones life because of their sexual preference.

I could not get to the actual story so I have no idea how old this boy was.
Thsi "coming out" of youngsters is disturbing because teenagers are generally confused with regards to their sexuality. I know from experience as a volunteer councellor, that many a teenager (male and female) experienced conflicting emotions during puberty and beyond thinking of themselves as gay only to realise some time later that they were not after all. It is tragic that this young person lost his life for his perceived sexual orientation. Things like that should not happen. But as I said, I was not able to get the full picture of what transpired and why his "coming out" should have lead to his death. I wish I could get to read the full story. Maybe sombody could post it here? Thanks

I am so disgusted by the very idea, let alone the act, of killing someone in general and based on sexual preference? Please, another form of bigotry that's leading to violence. I wept many tears over the Matthew Shepard murder and I can't believe this is spreading.

This is a truly sad story. One question it brings to mind is can schools provide safety for our kids?

I just read an article on this story befor ssigning on and wept, the murdered boy was only fifteen, and both boys had troubled lives. I feel for both of them, as they both needed help, and were not given any form of it, both seemed to have slipped through the cracks in so many ways. It is truly tragic when a child feels the only way to settle things is with a gun, it makes me question what we as adults are doing, if anything to protect these children. It horrifies me that the school or parents were not able to prevent this attack.

being killed for being who you are is tragic. it seems the schools can only do so much without overstepping their boundaries and suffering the backlash of small-minded parents. more kindness and understanding are needed and that starts at home

I wonder did he know something was going to happen? He changed his clothing and behavior that day. That poor child born into such an intolerant world.

This is outright a diabolical situation. All have the right to life but there is a price to pay. Forgive me for harping on a particular line of thought, but most folks forget one thing. The Creator put in place the freedom for us to choose two different ways of living. He set out the situation explaining where each of the two paths would lead to. He asked man, NO! He pleaded with man to choose the best pathway because it would lead to life eternal. There was no pussy footing around with what the other pathway would lead to. DEATH. Humanity chose to go the wrong pathway and we are admonished to do the study to find where we need to direct our purposes.
Are we directing our purposes to get back on the right pathway or are we justifying the wrong direction we have been travelling? Are we prepared to follow the Divine Law as laid out for us or do we want to write our own laws?
If I choose to do that which is against the law of the universe, like my mother would tell me, "Do not touch that stove because it will burn you!" I had not experienced what that result would be so I disbelieved her and touched the stove. The result was that I got my fingers burned. Was that the fault of my mother? Definitely not. I had been warned but chose to disbelieve my mother. The result from disbelief is not the fault of the ruling but the result of the disbelief.
The ruling laid down by the Creator was to the point, Thou shall not commit adultery and that includes fornication and any sexual deviation. Are we trying to justify something because we do not want to accept the ruling that The Creator laid out and also gave us what the result of disobeying that ruling would lead to? I am not pointing the finger at any person but am questioning why we condone actions that are in opposition to the direct laws of the universe?
The wages of sin is death. Nothing could be more clearer but are we wanting to challenge the One who knows what is best for our existence?
I feel sad for this young fellow who now has no chance of changing his direction and I also feel sad for the young fellow who did this murder. Unfortunately, we may be inclined to blame the Law Giver instead of the one who instigated the breaking of those laws and then we want to justify our stand.

You know, Robert, I'm pretty sure Micheal didn't put this article here to quench your rightousness-thirst. What's your point? That both the murderer and the victim are going to Hell now and it's our own damn fault? Please leave your closed mind at the door, you're not helping.
