The assumption of ever greater integration led to the prediction that manufacturing would continue to move from countries with low labor costs to those with even lower labor costs and even looser laws

I wish a lot of manufacturing jobs would migrate back to the US. We have better protections and need the jobs.

Not only to the US - to Europe as well.
We need to give the satisfaction of building and making products back to or people, rather than only pushing pencils, money and crates.

fascinating, looks like we will come full circle. With the crash of the housing market, many who have provided workers here for the last 20 years have gone home, cannot afford to live here and not work.If we push the idea of responsible fuels, and green living we could have a new source of sustainable jobs and spending. This could last long past our lifetimes and beyond.

I would like very much to see a reversal of this globalization thing, I would love to work in a factory again. I like making things, especially working with machines and metal. All you can find here now is a few call centers to work at, and I am not much good with talking verbally to people. I always believed that a country that produces nothing, ends up with nothing in it.

Good Article Michael! This is definitely and most certainly an issue in todays global society, one that I have addressed previously. We as individuals can support a reversal of globalization simply by purchasing locally manufactured and produced goods. Sure the price will be slightly higher, though price drops would follow suit when EVERYONE catchs on to the locally bought and made products again.

One other major concern I want to address is the Olympic Games in China. Whenever we purchase ANYTHING that shows the 2008 Olympics advertises business for China, which further increases profits for China.

If you buy a coffee mug with the 2008 Olympics Symbol displayed on the side ... you are giving a small profit to China.

The pinnacle to this concern is the growing power to the Chinese government society, a society that hinders growth for the freedom rights of millions of people .... and that is extended worldwide.

If you want a commemorative piece to show the opening ceremony of 2008 Olympics took place in China ... in 2008, print any news media coverage from an internet source, then frame it in an inexpensive photo frame.

The finished image, priceless and without support shown for China!
