Is Your Netflix Queue Destroying the Environment?

You can rest your conscience: Renting a DVD by mail is probably a greener choice than going to your local video store. To understand why, let's chart the journey a DVD takes before it arrives in your living room.

Don't do netflix, and don't rent videos either. Really is a no win situation though... one way provides jobs for many... the other helps with a greener environment. What is one to do. Thanks Michael. Something to think about.

Just watch them online. The idiots who lost your movies every time you returned them will need to adapt

Had Netflix last year, but then cancelled. No one was watching them once summer came. They go to the movie house to see one or we buy a DVD of our favorite movie. Thank You for this Michael.

Noted and thanks Michael for sharing. I have been in Netflix since 2002 because my disabled mother can't sit comfortably at a movie theater and I do what I can to help her. We can pause it so she can get up and stretch out a little, then finish watching. For me, it's very convenient as I don't stop anywhere I don't have to.

I usually watch things online or purchase documentaries on dvd. It's a rare time for me when I have time to watch tv for a few hours. I usually have something going on every night of the week.

I use the pay-per-view options, sometimes with my cable. It has replaced any of us going to the video store. Could be a lazy factor, but it is "green"...heehee. Thank you Michael.

Whew! I thought for a minute that I was going to have to cancel Netflix! Just kidding--thanks for the article, Michael.

I know I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack, but isn't there something a bit more dramatic than Netflix. The carbon footprint can't be as great as that of steel mills, if we still have any running, or perhaps the trucks you see running up an down the road delivering mail... junk mail that is.

Now, if you really want to get your teeth into something, go for the junk mail. Talk about a waste unless you sell you paper then you can hit a bonanza!

I use Netflix and have for years. To debate it's use over going to the local Blockbuster store is a bit... over the edge. Something to think about, no doubt, but since I only have half a mind left, I need it to work on things like the devastation of the world through nuclear war, and most importantly, surviving until January and just pray we have a country left after that.

I love Netflix...there is no convenient video store nearby and driving to one would be time consuming and a waste of gas, as the video stores in this area offer crap. Netflix has a wealth of offerings and their documentary choices are stellar. These I cannot get through pay-per-view or any video store.

Don't do Netflix. Rent an occasional DVD from video store that is only
one mile away when I am up town for groceries and post office visits.
Usually just buy any DVD that I think I would really like so we can have
them at home to enjoy during the winter months. That way getting snowed-in
can be a lot more fun. Disney movie and popcorn with hot chocolate anyone?
