Loopholes in immigration policy are preventing U.S. military personnel from becoming citizens even after years of service to the country, reported a civil rights organization this Memorial Day.

The last I read was that the military was offering citizenship to any person that served two years in the military. If they have reneged on this, it is most unfair and some group should do something legally about this.

Uncle Sam doesn't care about the military personnel. We've seen how veterans are treated, when they return home badly hurt - physically, emotionally or mentally. The medical neglect they got as a thank you after they developed terrible symptoms due to Agent Orange, depleted uranium etc. We've seen how long it took for true heroes like the Native American Code Talkers, to be honored properly and officially.

Uncle Sam wants Cannon Fodder... nothing less, nothing more.

"Support Our Troops" becomes even more of a hollowed marketing slogan than it already was. For generations, immigrants have earned citizenship by risking their very lives in uniform, which is more than many members of the last Administration, native born one and all, were willing to do for our country. There's just no upside to this; it's wrong and it demeans the real sacrifices of both U.S. native and foreign-born military personnel alike. And, of course, it should be redeemed.

The same thing happened in the UK with the Gurkhas from Nepal who had fought for this country for more than two hundred years who lost over 45,000 men in fighting for this country. After a long hard slog the Government was at last persuaded by the wieght of public opinion to recind the rule that prevented them from the right to stay in the UK.I hope that public opinion in the US will result in a chaner in the law to allow these men and women who bravely fought for yor country and put their lives at risk to attain the citzanship which they so richly deserve.
