LOL...and people wonder why, with my Mrs. Magoo vision without my glasses, I am fearful of swimming in the ocean (not to mention the pollution!).

How cool is this. It looks like the shark wants to surf too. But I am like everyone else, no more ocean swimming for me anywhere.

Noted. What a delight for the photographer who captured this moment! I, for another, no longer go into lakes or oceans due to pollutants and, for us here in Louisiana, there are many buildings, cars, etc. still in the water from Katrina. Thanks for this interesting story and video, Patti!

You have less of a chance getting bit by a shark than most things that happen to you....I heard the odds the other day....it consoled me! I live at the ocean and LOVE to swim there! Just this month a teenage girl got bit near where I live. But does that mean I won't go swimming in the ocean anymore??? NOOOOO. She was swimming late afternoon/evening WITH shiny jewelry on. Two things you DON'T DO in the ocean! Use common sense and *SWIM* all you want. You will probably get struck by lightning before you get bit by a shark! Ohhhh yea....and remember....we are swimming IN their POOL! Not the other way around!

OOOOOHHHH!! New Smyrna is closer to me than any other beach in Florida! (And I do still swim there, albeit with trepidation!)
Great submission, Patti!

This reminded me of the fact, that when The Fonz jumped over a shark in an episode of Happy Days,it symbolised the end of the road for the series. It was felt that this desperate storyline took the series to a real low.Shame, as I always enjoyed Happy Days.

You're not a chicken Donna. I live on an island on the eastern shore of Va. When my son started catching sharks while surf fishing I stopped swimming. If your a chicken so am I. Cluck Cluck. lol. Good bit of photography. Loved it.

Love Sharks. They can forever have the ocean and I will take the lakes and streams.

I look upon this encounter as a beautiful experience and gift, as if it was a dolphin swimming beside me.

What cool pictures. Sharks do not eat people. They occasionally bite them but then so will a dog if you are a stranger in it's territory. Sharks are amazing and just trying to survive. They are being decimated in their millions every year by having their fins and tails hacked off and being pushed back into the ocean alive to die a horrible death. They are becoming endangered. Very few people get bitten by sharks and certainly never attacked or they would be shredded in most cases with no hope of survival. If they stopped chasing sharks away from their food in boats, helicopters and spotter planes then they would pose less danger to humans. They have always been there and we have co-existed quite well with them with a handful of attacks a year. Now we are depleting their food supplies they are venturing out of their normal territories which is what is causing the danger, the actions of humans.

Great Pic! The shark almost seems to be having fun! Like a dolphin! Well, great picture to show that just because a shark has an oppurtunity to attack a human...IT DOES NOT MEAN IT WILL! Kudos, Sharky!
