An excellent article by Jennifer Chen of the Contra Costa Times. More than just a few interesting comments and news based on actual numbers here in the United States showing that it's more lip service than actual work/action on the part of our Nation.

This is where US should show brave leadership if it really expects the whole world to continue acknowledging its leadership in eradicating human rights abuses.

The thing that raised my eyebrows in this all too familiar story was that the US has not signed the UN convention on Children's Rights. Why the heck not! But it's an old article. Has the US signed yet?

We shirk way too much on issues involving the health, safety and welfare of our people

This is abominable to happen anywhere on this Earth, but it is even more disgusting and dark that this nation of so many Freedoms and Justices hasn't done more with erradicating this horrific trade from our nation. Who are the freaking buyers..., that is who they must publicize and strongly go after, so the sellers change their choice of product to sell. Supply and demand. There should be NO DEMAND for this sickness, in humanity. Noted and thank you Mark.

I question this point -
Wealthy nations, including the United States, need to cancel Third World debts and enable developing nations to spend more of their budgets on the basic needs of their citizens.
How do we know that those nations will spend more of their budgets on the basic needs of their citizens if their debt is canceled by other wealthy nations? The leaders of those third world countries might use that money for themselves
