At least tens of thousands of veterans could suffer delayed or even denied care in coming years to enable President Bush to meet his promise of cutting the deficit in half.

The Veteran should receive the highest respect from everyone in this Land of The Free; and as they say Home of The Brave. These men and women dedicate their lives and their services for us to have and be able to live in this country. Without them there would be no country to live in. They should never be forgotten nor abandoned. They are a special group of people who band together and keep the spirit going. Let's do all we can to help them and their families live a respectful life for which they should be honored. There are many different situations that arrect the Veteran; disabilities related and non-related to their service given. They need Health Care, Education, and Financial Assistance . With this country being the richest one ever why do they have to turn away any Veteran? Who has the right to say Yes or No to who will receive help from the government? Never give up; it will work out.

All men and women who have served in any of the United States Armed Forces deserve everything promised to them to include quality healthcare. Where is the moral commmitment of our government to these brave supporters of our freedom?

Wow this is another no brainer. They fought for this country in all the battles and wars of the past and in the present. Why do we have to fight for what should be given with such pride...for all the service they the Vet's have bestowed upon this great country? Is there no one who listens with the heart of what is right and just???Where is our President now??Where are the Senate and Congress now?? This is shamefull that our Govt. subjects the men and women to no treatment, beniefts or aid of any quality. How do they sleep at night??

I am retired from the US Army..I retired after almost 30 years and am a Vietnam veteran whereI was wounded in battle..When I first signed up to enter the army I was told if I retired I would receive free medical care for me and my spouse..Now I must pay a co payment caled tri care if I go to a military hospital I will be seen only on standby, Active duty first then reserves then National guard then wives of those then finally Retirees..Because I was wounded in combat I get free medical no co pay from the VA Hospital but the VA medical care is not as good as the care given at the nearby Womack Army Medical Center..I am now 65 and am elgible for Medicare which I pay over $80 a month and is deducted from my social security payment..It stands to reason because I was always told by my grand parents that what ever the white eye leaders in Washington give you with one hand they will take away with the other..The USA government is not made up by we the common people it is made up by a few people who make promises they do not ever keep or have any intentions to keep..All of the treaties that were made to my people were broken not by my people but by the US Government and that is a historical fact..We veterans are used to overcoming and this we shall also overcome.. Praise be unto the Creator for my very excellent good health..I may eventully have to move into the wilderness and rely on natural medicines as my ancestors did..

I am a daughter of a Vet, and a mother of a son who wants to join the Army. Is this how we repay those who fight for our freedom, and our way of life? They should never have to worry about how they are going to get the medical treatment they need. It would be a slap in face to all those who serve this country, or have served to now tell them, they aren't worth the money it would take to take care of their medical needs? We can help rebuild Iraq, but cut the benefits of those who are wounded over there? Veterans deserve better than what they get.

Last Thursday night I was taking photos of Jane Fonda for a group of book stores here in Brisbane Australia. As a Vietnam Vet I was concerned about what my reaction to her would be but found she was reasonably sincere in saying she had made some errors of judgement in the past so I just went on taking photos.
At the conclusion, when she was signing books, my wife mentioned that I was a Vet and how proud she was of me and Ms. Fonda came over to me, wrapped her arms around me and gave me a large embrace. On parting and somewhat bewildered, I asked if she had been getting any flack from Vets in Australia and she replied; "Only on radio." She then asked me if there was a good support system here for vets. I managed to say that we did and that it was much better than the American system; that I thought the American government were callously disregarding their veteran's plight.
Now I haven't had this confirmed as yet, but Ms Fonda then stated that in the States PTSD was no longer being diagnosed in Vets! Can anyone confirm or deny this claim and what the exact reason is if it is true?
I feel deeply saddened for the struggle the Vets are going through but it is not just a United States issue. We in Australia have suffered greatly and have fought hard for what we now get and we will have to keep fighting hard to retain those rights. Canada, Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain, they all continue to minimise the cost of veterans after the event, pity they don't consider that before hand!
SUPPORT A VETERAN, THEY NEED IT.

my son is a British soldier, our government is no better at looking after service personel after they have served their purpose. there is little change in official attitudes since soldiering began. go back through history and those that started the war have always abandoned those who served. a soldiers mother

Like always. Another promise that is being broken by the government. There is no help for our heroes, for our elderly, for our homeless. Healthcare is becoming something out of our reach and who can afford the medicines.

Our current administration continues, day after day, to help the rich get richer, and force the poor into deeper poverty. What will it take for America to wake up? We must honor our word, our promises, to veterens, to the elderly, to children, to all in need. This administration finds it easier to involve our troops, and money in other countries' governments, all the while neglecting to care for the needs within our own borders. Shame on any of us who allow this to continue, and worsen.

I served in the Navy (1962 - 1966) and have have seen a lot of presidents in the past but never one like Bush. This president is stripping away mine and everyone's right to live healthy and enjoy America. Retirement is comming up for me soon and the future is not bright. Medical costs are out of sight and nothing is being done. By the time I retire there will be no coverage anywhere. When something goes wrong I'll get the "sorry but you will have to die cause we can't help you - try somewhere else". This is not what I grow old for. What I see is President Bush starts a war on a whim (weapons of mass distruction) at the expense of well being of Americans. Had this whim never happend we would not have to pay for it. There would be money for other home issues to help out with. I used to be up and happy but that is quickly fading away. I will stop now as nothing more good can be said as a lot of others have already stated the dismal facts.

I agree, I serviced in Viet-Nam and had VA medical free for 14 yrs. and starting jan. 2006 thanks to the Brush administration, have to pay for everything now or die because I can't afford what my meds cost and been told that I make too mush from Social-Secutiry disability in witch I worked for all my life. We're in another war that we shouldn't be in and the American people fell for it again, including myself by gaving President Brush a second term and nothing good will become of it and I'll stop now before I really get mad. All because of OIL, what happen to For The People.

it makes me sick to hear that rat Bush get up and talk about how much he appreciates our men and women who are serving the country! what a liar. we need to let our Senators and congressmen know we will not tolerate this anymore. our votes can take them out so lets do it.

President Bush's rhetoric on appreciation of our vets means little without action behind it. Our vets need health coverage!
