The year 1965 was also when a 13-year-old boy in Pennsylvania found a box turtle, carved his initials and the year into its rock-hard shell, and then let the creature go.

I didn't know box turtles lived that long. It's amazing. I'm glad the carving didn't do any harm to the turtle.

But he shouldn't "carve" anything into the shell of living turtle in the first place..

An amazing story but I would like to be reassured that carving the shell didn't hurt - I am not sure that anyone could be 100% sure that it doesn't!

There are no pain sensors in a turtles shell.

I say we carve this piece of crap's initials and the date that it is done on him then release his idiotic butt in the middle of nowhere, like that when he surfaces again we will be able to know how much time he took to come back to society, that carving will always be a memory of what happened to him!

Wow, I'm surprised that human beings would let something live that long. He's a lucky one. 47 is a long time. They are so cute. I'm glad he had a chance to live that long and hope he lives a lot longer

I am not too fond of someone carving on a living creature even if there was no pain, still seems real disrespectful to me but I have to admit the message coming down thru the years was very intriguing.

What is awesome is that the little turtle survived in this harsh world and hope it lives a full long wonderful life. Thank you so much for this news Diane.
