What constitutes animal cruelty? Would you consider leaving a dog chained on the roof of a building in Miami, Fla. in the middle of summer as abusive?

Would you consider leaving a dog chained in temperatures up to, and sometimes beyond, 100 degrees, on an industrial roof, unattended, day in and day out, as cruel?

The aforementioned scenario is not a fictional situation - it is the reality for one dog in Miami who is forced to live on top of the G&G Produce building, even in the sweltering summer temperatures.

According to News10, the dog is named "Burro," and he is kept on the roof to protect the business from break-ins.

In looking at the photo, the appears to be a significant number of deterrents for those who might want to break in - not only is there a chained dog, but there is razor wire and a chain link fence surrounding the roof top area.

Yet officials in the area claim that the dog's owners are not breaking any rules. Apparently, they believe that chaining a dog to the top of a roof in the middle of summer is okay.

The Miami Fire Department told News10 that they would not be getting involved because it is okay to leave a dog outside - even it is on a sweltering hot rooftop.

Some advocates are declaring that the Mayor needs to be contacted, others want animal control to step in.

But then again, if the officials in Miami believe that chaining a dog on top of an asphalt roof in the middle of summer is okay...will anything come of it?

Perhaps, if they continue to hear from those who know that this is not right.

This is so damn cruel and stupid!!!

Why don't the people who think it is okay to be on the roof spend a day there themselves? I dare them!

I'll do what I can to make sure Burro is saved from this HELL on earth!

Thanks Dianne.

The powers of social media prompted humane agents and helicopters on Wednesday to check out hundreds of complaints about animal cruelty originally reported by a fan on a Facebook page called 100+Abandoned Dogs of the Everglades. A Florida fruit business, G&G Produce located at 2400 NW 13th Ave. in Miami uses two large dogs to keep their premises secure; one dog happens to live on the hot roof of the building.

the most inhuman and absurd is the fact that the authorities have said that nothing else can do.
Remove that poor dog and put the authorities on the industrial roof at 100/150 degrees, then let's see if they still have the only strength to say that nothing else to do.
These actions make us as impotent as the animals are forced to suffer
Signed with a lot of hope - ty u so much Dianne

What is the matter with all of these so called officials, where is their compassion. Not one of them has the guts to make a stand on this. This is blatant animal cruelty. I am an aussie and I know our RSPCA would be called in to deal appropriately with this situation. Keep pushing everyone and don't stop and thank you.

Remember to send letters (same letter at the same time!) to groups of c onscience, for the protection of animals etc, .... If there are groups/ people interested in the animal & following case and state decide to rescue, cat/dog could end in a shelter! It could die very easily. Nothing guarantee it will survive that hell!!!! If more people/groups are aware, involved and state know about it, the animal could have a better possibility to survive shelter!
Too many animals die in Florida! too many and very easy..! State could go and just "solve" the problem....... We want doggie to live!

PS: PLEASE, SOMEONE, SEND MESSAGE WITH INFO AND COPY OF THE PETITION TO ANIMAL LEGAL DEFENSE FOUNDATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!
I have problems connecting!
