I will forward this and other information ASAP. I also read in the comments that Betsabe Torres adamantly recommends no money whatsoever be sent by concerned citizens to anyone in Mexico for this dog due to the serious corruption involved. Money should not change hands between anyone. The dog must be confiscated by a rescue group, who can take their own course in handling the owners with a monetary exchange if need be.
I hope one of these rescues is able to get to the dog before the police. They are not the post honest law enforcement entities on the planet and have little concern for the welfare of animals. Michelle

Signed the petition, but it seems from what I understand is animal welfare and authorities need to contacted and a rescue needs to neotiate with the owner and pull the dog. ? Michelle has a facebook petition that states the authorities are aware of the situation, but the owners will not release the dog and it seems as if the police do not have the authority to demand seizure. Confusing. The petition request signatures (as I understood) to enforce a seizure. The other avenue I understand is to get a rescue directly in Mexico to negotiate with the owner. Sorry - maybe I'm just tired, but I needed to write this to try to understand what was going on. OK, well I'll check back to see if there is any way I can help be drop in the bucket in this.

How is this poor dog supposed to eat or drink?? Rescue groups better get their butts in gear as this dog will die of thirst or starvation in only a couple of days. They need to do more than get the tape off, but get this poor dog away from this torturer.

The most common subject discussed with regard to animal cruelty in Mexico is bullfighting. Certainly, the practices of bullfighting are very cruel and display an underlying lack of compassion for animals, namely the bulls involved. There are several "animal rights" groups in Mexico working on many fronts to combat Mexico's cruel animal practice's.

However, we rarely hears about the plight of the average stray dog in Mexico. For whatever reason, it seems to be very easy for the average Mexican to overlook the stray dogs in Mexico. Stray dogs are everywhere in Mexico, and yet it is all too easy to NOT notice them. Rarely do the average Mexican citizens notice or even care that the stray dogs are hungry, thirsty or injured. Because to the average Mexicans, stray dogs are like flies-- a nuisance, and everywhere. It's very sad but exterminating services have been created to "take care of" the stray dog problems there, where regular roundups and very cruel treatment (like the caged dog in the photo above) happens on a daily basis in Mexico. And there are more extreme cases, where poisoning strays dogs may occur.

Although the stray dogs are rarely aggressive - more often they are pathetically starved for both love and food - they are routinely shooed away as one does a fly, or the dogs are bluntly kicked and hit with solid objects that may severely injure them. These poor strays are usually very thin, and their heads are always to the ground hoping to sniff out a few bits of edible garbage. Again, most of these deprived animals are often starved, diseased or injured.

I hope all of the animal lovers in this particular community get involved to help give a voice to the millions of suffering dogs just South of our borders. The above photo doesn't even come close to the worst-case scenario of animal cruelty in Mexico. One particular festival (goat-tossing) has Mexican citizens throwing goats out of second-floor windows, off of church towers or off the average house top, every fourth Sunday of January. I encourage you all to write letters to both the Mexican authorities and to the International Animal Welfare groups, and plead the case on behalf of these suffering creatures, namely man's best friend.

I agree with you, Greg Cooper. In Mexico we don´t have the ASPCA or any government authority to help us, animal lovers, to end animal cruelty, but we do what we can to help. I´ve adopted several dogs from the streets myself and helped adopt many others, but the problem is huge!!! Im so sick of this, Im exhausted with this kind of thing. I DONT CARE if the owners wont surrender the dog, you would NOT BE ABLE TO STOP ME from taking him from them. My beautiful boy is napping with a full belly with toys all over the floor and has no clue what is happening to MILLIONS of his cousins.
That someone can do this and proudly post it on FB is sick and WILL GET THEIRS. The corruption is Mexico is unbelievable. I think the citizens should band together and take back their country. I posted this on FB yesterday but will go now to post the petition. I know a few cousins who will be outraged as well...

they bothered to cut off his ears,but not enough to let him live a good life...priorities..all assbackwards.
They removed the tape? Thank goodness for he would have surely have become dehydrated,malnourished (he already was),and might have lost all his facial hair...no protection from the elements and possible blistering..
I've been thinking about him a lot,obviously...I have lost 2 of 3 dogs on the last 5 years,and cannot believe what people are capable of..
I am getting so tired of all the pics of "disposable" pets....Maybe it's the owners who should be disposed of?

This is so unbelievably, my heart just breaks knowing how much this dog is suffering.

It bothers me every day off my life: why are people so cruel? We are not born to be evil (or good) - it is a personal choice! I don't know about any of you but I'm tired of reading and seeing day after day what humans are doing to animals (as well to this planet). Sad world, dark as a bad dream... isn't it?

I just saw where he was saved. I would have taken him if I could have gotten to him. I've had several Dobies and they are the sweetest, gentlest dogs. I didn't get to read all of the comments...what have they done with the piece of human filth, the former owner?

I just wondering which dog was actually rescued in mexico because there is picture of light color big dog on top of the roof in Nayarit and there is picture of doberman with duct tape on his mouth . Now i am confused . That is unbelievable how people are mean to the animals i will do same to them what they are doing to poor dogs or cats ......

CAme back for an update and saw that this dog was rescued. That is awesome news! Thank you Dianne for going above and beyond on this one and helping this poor dog. Now it''''d be nice if the owner was charged with and convicted of the severest form of animal cruelty.

***UPDATE***: I finally got an answer from a lady who was at the scene when the picture was taken. She is a volunteer for an animal protection association in Tepic. She tells me that the journalist who took the picture removed the tape from the doggy´s mouth right after. They tried to take the dog but the owners of the property arrived. They are watching the place and now they are getting donnations in order to buy the dog from those people. The same lady rescued the other dog. It´s a different dog but from the same city. I´ll keep you posted when I get some more news.
