How do we undo decades of misinformation and unfounded prejudices and restore the Pitbull back to its original status as a gentle, loving dog? Instead of banding together to help these poor animals escape their tragic lifestyle we

In 2012 the world mourned when Lenox, Tony and multiple other dogs were seized from their home, incarcerated and killed at the hands of their local justice departments. When will this stop??

Sniffing Snouts Rescue in Central Florida has stepped up to the plate and gone to bat for Pitbulls for two years.

@Greg with all due respect you really need to educate yourself on the topic before you say such ignorant and quite frankly rude things firstly all veterans agree that it ISNT that a pit bull is born to fight and hurt it is the OWNER who teaches said pit bulls to fight! The dog is simply only doing what its master is making it do furthermore these dogs can be taken from a lifetime of fighting and be perfectly fine in a family setting with training do you not think any dog is capable of killing hurting? Why pick on piy bulls is it because you are afraid of them or just ignorant and one last thing i OWN a pit bull named Shar she is a rescue i got as a puppy and she is the best most gentle loving dog ive ever had around my kids and I am HARDLY mindless i have an IQ of over 150 so save the wise cracks out of curiosity Greg whats your IQ? LMAO my dog wouldnt kill or hurt anyone UNLESS someone tried to hurt one of us but what dog wouldnt? also if Pit Bulls are such killers then explain to me how their owners who fight them can break two dogs apart who are tring to kill each other , by jamming break sticks into their mouths in the middle of a fight WITHOUT getting hurt?

Pit Bull "Terriers"---Bred to KILL! Make Possession, Breeding and Ownership a Felony NOW!

We've done some research on Pit Bull Terriers and their propensity TO KILL. We have found the following information:

Pit Bull dogs and their mixes are less than 2% of the canine population and account for one-third of the dog-to-human fatalities.

-In the U.S., a Pit Bull kills a human being every 22 days, usually a child family member. These statistics are taken over a 10-year period!

Pit Bull "Terriers"---Bred to KILL! Make Possession, Breeding and Ownership a Felony NOW!

Since our article yesterday, we've done some research on Pit Bull Terriers and their propensity TO KILL.

-While there are no reliable non-fatal dog bite/attack statistics, insurance records show that billions of dollars are paid out from homeowners insurance policies each year, most of which are Pit Bull attacks and bites. These costs are passed on to all homeowners in their policies.

-Most Pit Bull bites/attacks on humans result in hospital stays while other breed bites/attacks do not.

-The Pit Bull dog breed was originally bred in England as 'bear-bait', to fight and wear bears physically down before a human killed the bear.

Why are these killer animals allowed to continue to kill and disfigure children, other humans and other animals? Where are our politicians on this matter?

Pit Bull Terriers are unpredictable animals. They are 'hard wired' through years of refined breeding to viciously attack their prey, crush bones with a superior developed-muscular jaw and neck and to not let go of their victims until that victim is dead! Just as a rattle snake is 'hard-wired' to bite and release it's venom into their prey, so too are Pit Bull dogs designed in like manner.

Why are these animals allowed to exist in a civilized society? And why are there no controls over their possession, breeding and ownership?

For the record, we love our small mixed breed dog like there's no tomorrow. She is a family member. But no 'dog' is worth the disfigurement of a child or that child's life. Pit Bulls have proved they disfigure and kill children. Between now and the end of the year, count on at least 10 more deaths as the results of Pit Bull attacks. Is it not time to remove these animals from society and their ability to do what they were 'designed' to do?

Write your politicians! Meanwhile, avoid Pit Bull Dogs when you can. This is a dangerous animal!

To Greg, are you aware that Schnauzers were bred to kill rats. They were designed to catch their prey and hold, shake and bite down until they break the neck of their prey. So does that mean that no one should own a Schnauzer?

Many dog breeds were bred to kill other animals but with the right owner, these dogs do not follow thru on what they are supposedly bred to do.

You need to think a little bit harder about your hatred of a dog breed that has proven over and over again how loyal, affectionate, loving and protective they can be. Yes, there have been pit bulls that were trained to kill and fight, but the key word there is trained.

Any animal can become a product of training and environment. If a dog is trained to fight and kill then of course those are the traits it will exhibit, but when a dog is raised with love, compassion and gentleness, then that dog is going to exhibit those traits instead.

Your black and white view has no room in the real world and it is people like you who continue to foster the idea that pit bulls are dangerous. And to say an animal deserves nothing but death makes you the worst kind of person as far as I am concerned and I hardly think you belong on a site that is working so hard to bring about positive change for animals and many other issues as well.

Take your vitriol somewhere else because you will find no supporters here.

we already know that the dogs are trainable but let's hope that the uneducated, misguided, and ignorant humans that pose the most danger to this breed are just as trainable!

SPECIAL NOTE: When we use the terms "pitbull or breed" it should be understood to encompass American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Most Bullie Breeds, Pitbull Mixes, or any other dog which commonly falls under the generic category of pitbull according to public opinion or breed specific legislation laws because of their similar traits and characteristics.

The MOST my Pit Bull would do is LOVE you to death lmao PLEASE educte yourself Greg because you look vey foolish lol
My suggestion to everyone is to just ignore greg he is much like those in Belfast Ireland Ignorant Prejudice and filled with fear and NOT at all willing to hear rationality and facts so just let it go and dont waste your time you just CANT argue with crazy or hate! I feel sorry for you Greg

Spate of Pit Bull Attacks Has Nation on Alert

Critics say they’re cold-blooded killers, but the breed’s supporters say they’re just misunderstood.
The pit bull wars are raging again.

Last week, an 8-month-old boy in San Diego was killed by a pit bull in an apartment he shared with his mother and her roommate. In Milwaukee, a 55-year-old man who was walking his dog suffered serious injuries after a pit bull leaped from a second-story balcony and attacked the dog and the man. And on Wednesday, two dog walkers in Galveston, Texas, were attacked, along with their dogs, by a pack of pit bulls.

These attacks have reignited debate over whether pit bulls are a vicious breed by nature and should be outlawed, or are safe, loving pets who get a bad rap.

Colleen Lynn is in the former camp. The founder of, which collects data on dog attacks, said these latest pit bull attacks are "tragic, but they aren’t shocking to me. People who have pit bulls are in denial about this breed.”

Lynn, herself a survivor of a pit bull attack, says 128 people in the U.S. were killed by pit bulls between 2005 and 2011, according to information her site has gathered from media reports. Pit bull advocates say such figures are inflated because people often assume the attacker is a pit bull, even when it’s not.

“It's common for people even at shelters and in law enforcement to report that dogs involved in attacks are pit bulls when they look like pit bulls,” says Christie Keith, a contributing editor at Pet Connection and advocate for homeless dogs and cats and animal-shelter reform. “But they can be, and often are, mixes of other breeds.”
That may or may not be the case in West Virginia, where a two-year-old boy was killed last week after he wandered into a neighbor's yard and was attacked by two dogs that were initially reported to be pit bull mixed breeds. But a spokeswoman for the Pleasants County Sheriff’s Department there says “we don’t know for certain whether they were pit bulls or not.” She says “one of the dogs appeared to be a labrador mix and the other appeared to be a boxer mix, but one of them looked more like a pit bull than the other.”

A court in Maryland ruled that the breed is “inherently dangerous,” potentially making it easier to hold pit bull owners liable when their dogs attack

In response to: “It is the owners who give some pitbulls a bad name,” by a Flint woman, in “Your Voices.” In some cases, you’re right, but in the majority of the cases you’re wrong!

Pitbulls were inbred in Europe to be killers. If you go online, you’ll see that pits are banned in some states in the U.S and in many foreign countries, including Canada. There are good reasons for that
You blame it on the owners, but what about the following instances, for example: A grandmother, who had a pit since it was a puppy, laid her grandchild on the floor — her pit bit the baby’s head off. Another grandmother, who also had a pit since it was a puppy, had a grandchild over — the pit attacked the young girl for no apparent reason. It took over 200 stitches to sew the girl up. And what about the 3-year-old Flint girl who was recently attacked by a pit and would be dead if not for the two brave, young boys who came to her rescue? The list goes on and on and on.

You want to take the chance that your pit will “snap” someday? Most times, after an attack, the owner will say, “But my pit was so friendly, caring, etc.” Yeah, right, be realistic!

Have you ever watched Judge Joe Brown on TV? He says, “Pitbulls are not pets, they’re time bombs waiting to go off!” He has a chart, that they display, that shows pits far outnumber other breeds in deadly attacks on people or pets. Not just bites, but deadly attacks.

The entire breed needs to be eliminated.

@Greg, there were many other breeds over the years that were labelled as vicious & having a bite history. None of those were as badly persecuted or stalked with bans & 'kill 'em all' mindset like the pit. Since the low life's in the world have been engaging in pit bull fighting, many more pit bulls have been born. Sadly they were born into the care of the ones who fight them, & if they show potential are trained for fighting. You can not blame a breed for what MAN has manipulated it into. What about the fighting Vick dogs? Many were rehabilitated & adopted into good homes, they were thankful to get out of 'the business' & just be a family member & pet. Pit bulls were used in military, the Our Gang comedy kids had a pit bull! They were BORN (like any other dog) to love & serve people. They were trusted with children so much, they were called the Nanny Dog cuz of their devotion & gentleness. They were TRAINED to fight, it is not an inbred trait.

Tuesday January 1, 2013, 1:20 pm
I don't hate Pit Bulls or the People who love them. I just wanted to point out that pit bulls do not make suitable pets. they were bred to kill not to be loved.

"they were bred to kill not to be loved"-----that statement alone Greg is what hurts any dog breed. It is people like you that give this breed a bad name.

There are many dog breeds that are considered 'bully breeds'. There are also instances of police or animal control labeling a dog a pit bull based on it's looks, when it's really not. This in itself can increase the # of dog bites attributed to pits. Take the test, find the pit bull, no cheating! Read up about them, they were Americas favorite dog in years past, loyal, protective, versitile. The first decorated dog of the armed forces was a pit.

Noted, tweeted, tweeted, read and shared. Made me cry how these two dogs were treated. Too bad humanity takes the good qualities of a dog, loyalty and protectiveness, and turns the dog into a danger to society and itself. The owners should receive the punishment not the dogs.

Noted - what have we humans become - I know pitbulls, I have worked with them - they are no different to any other dog. It is we humans that are the most dangerous and vicious and the majority needs to be damn well executed.
