So what can you do if you suspect a family member or a friend is an animal hoarder?

Animal suggests the following:

Intervene and get help for the animals. Use community resources and get the local humane society and police involved.
Keep in touch with the animals once they are removed from the home and use social media to find foster homes and adoptive homes. Many of these animals suffer from malnutrition, disease, and other poor health issues.
Volunteer at a local shelter.
Donate to a local shelter and participate in fund raising activities to provide funding for drastic cases.
Educate about hoarding. Failing to provide a sanitary environment and providing proper medical and nutrition is considered animal cruelty. Don't let hoarders downplay the seriousness of the crime.

Humans are way too cruel and irresponsible with their animals, whether they be dogs, cats, horses or whatever. It's even worse when the owners have a mental illness such as this woman. So sad for the animals. I'm praying they find good homes for them all, that are healthy enough. I imagine a number of them will be put down, due to their health state and the neglect they suffered. There are over 45 cats person on the face of the earth. We shouldn't even be allowed to breed dogs and cats until that populatin is under control. Thanks for sharing this story...hope it will help animals in the future, and help others recognize when they need to step in and help them.

Dianne thank you for posting this article! Because it makes people realize just how prevalent it is, and that the hoarder typically doesn't see that what they are doing is very cruel for the animals. These people have an illness and that's why it is important, that relatives, friends, or just even people in the
community if they suspect this is going on, get in touch with animal control or their local humane societies! The Humane Society of the United States estimates 250,000 animals a year are victims of hoarder situations! This does indeed show how widespread this problem really is!

It is an illness. Very sad for the people and the animals. I believe that most of these hoarders really don't have much family, so keep an eye on people, turn them in to the proper authorities, better for the person and certainly better for the animals. Thanks Dianne

These are very sick people. They don't understand that they are doing these animals harm. In fact they love them and weep when they are taken away from them. A long period of therapy might help. They are to be pitied as they cannot lead a normal life and are alienated from their families and friends.

I hope the animals that were removed are helped medically and adopted . The problem is as we know the
hoarders really don't believe they have a problem .
Its really awful as spring is considered kitten season so how do all these animals find homes .

There are actually people on the link praising this woman & calling her an animal lover !
She is also affiliated with a rescue group , Beyond horrendous that she simply didn't bother to provide even basic care !

I always think that saying people like this are "animal hoarders" just minimizes the severity of their actions.
Like they really care about the animals and it just got out of control - NOT!! How about this is just pure plain cruelty!! How do you just walk over a dying animal and not do anything??!! That is heartless and just plain abuse!!! You hoard things not innocent living creatures!!!

But she is an animal control officer...that makes it even worse, she should have known better and didn't the people she worked with at the animal control no something was just a bit amiss??That is a lot of animals to have for someone not to have noticed.

I think most horders have good intensions but don't have the money or knowledge to care for so many animals. So sad for the animals as most will be euthanized. We must control the humans that breed their animals.

The plain simple truth is that this is inexcusable! PERIOD no excuses for her or all of those people who knew it and just looked the other way.....nothing else matters!!! The animals were severely abused...if it was a kid everyone would not be making excuses! what is the difference... ALL ANIMAL ABUSERS NEED TO BE IN JAIL FOR A LONG TIME
