Neighbors support Maglaya's version; they have stated that the little boy was more than a block away and that the puppy never made a sound.

The incident is being investigated.

R.I.P. Thanks, Dianne, even though it is sad news.
The police should have been put down, instead of the puppy. And lying on top of all. They need to charge him with murder 1 and put him behind bars.

Poor baby. RIP at The Rainbow Bridgewith other innocents. I'm ashamed to say I'm a Chicagoan and we know how crooked a lot of them are. As for the Police cover-up, well that's everywhere, even in other countries. So sad.

So,so sad. And he lied, I hope he gets fired and the word spreads to all the self righteous cops who shoot any dog with a broad head. I hope the family sues his arse off, for the poor puppy and the trauma he caused. As Lynn said they need to be educated and prosecuted. RIP baby dog.

Noted - he should have a gun shoved down his throat and the trigger pulled - wicked rubbish that he is. This was a puppy for God's sake. RIP poor little baby - you didn't deserve this!

Words almost completely fail me! What this man did was so cruel and vicious, it is hard to even conceive of. A little puppy who was just being a puppy, showing his love for people, and wanting to play with others and this man sounds like he was hell-bent on shooting this beautiful puppy! This man shouldn't be a policeman. Anyone who would do this to a puppy sounds like he is prone to violent and unpredictable behavior. It sounds like he has very low impulse control and shoots first before he can even properly assess what is going on! To shoot that poor little puppy 8 times and when there's people around in a neighborhood is very dangerous and he shows no capacity for self-control! Therefore, he is dangerous not only to animals but to people too! He should be discharged immediately for his horrible crime of animal cruelty and prosecuted for felony animal cruelty just like anyone else who would commit such an unnecessary and horrific shooting of an innocent puppy!

There were absolutely no signs that showed that this dog meant to do any harm to him or the child who was a block away and the neighbors who can all attest to this! All of these police shootings of innocent and loving family dogs need to stop now! Police Depts. all across the U.S. should discharge officers who shoot dogs for no real cause, they also should be charged with felony animal cruelty too! This guy was off-duty too. It seems as if he thinks he is the self-appointed neighborhood dog killer and if for some reason he doesn't like your dog or its breed that it gives him the right to shoot him! This is not only a very bad cop but a very bad man! I hope that not only does he gets discharged but that the owners pursue criminal charges and civil charges too against this ugly person for his horrendous cruelty!
"He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.-Immanuel Kant

Another gun-toting, trigger-happy moron with no brain posing as a police officer. Shame on him and shame on his co-workers if they lie to protect his ass. He, and them, are not fit to wear the badge of a law-abiding officer. How can they possibly defend an 'off-duty' police officer who shoots an innocent puppy EIGHT times 'in the line of duty?????'

This is so evil. At 4 months of age, that little guy probably still had most of his baby teeth!
