Somehow I could not in my heart of hearts put a child/twins through this. There has to be a sense of denial & why me Lord thinking between the two of them. However, there has been extensive & monumental psychological counseling with these twins & I have to suppose that is why they are comparatively normal. The parents have done an excellent job of protecting them from media vultures.

I wish them the best of luck in their lives.........

There are other sets of conjoined twins that are alive and considerably older. There is a set of sisters born in 1961 Reba and Lori Schappell of Reading, Pennsylvania and also a set of brothers Ronnie and Donnie Galyon of Ohio born in 1951. This does not make Abigail and Brittany Hansel any less remarkable only the reporting of their claim to be the oldest living conjoined twins inaccurate.

Abigail & Brittney are literally the only cojoined twins in existence with one body & two separate hesds!!!!!!!! Most of their inner parts are separate but only to the lower half of their body. Other living cojoined twins have completely separate bodys but are joined at some point between their bodys.

If you look at these girls picture you can see two heads attached to one body. Some how some way their bodys fused at some point after conception.

Sure hope I explained this right!!

Bette M, You described it accurately. You are correct, I have seen [via media] MANY conjoined twins with at least partial body separation OR double torso, with mostly unshared organs. Abigail & Brittney are the only set of conjoined twins I can recall seeing mention of, after they were small. May they continue to live a healthy, happy life. All life if precious. Just not sure how easy/difficult, their life has been for them. People can be VERY cruel.

Heh. I thought that the girls were a lot older than that. Possibly because I read about them in _People_ so long ago.

They astonished me then, and they astonish me now. I think about them from time to time, for no real reason, and I realise that I very likely wouldn't be able to live like that I need far too much alone time and independence. Although, OTOH, I suppose that if that's the only kind of life you've ever known, it's a completely different story.

Their courage, their tenacity, their optimism ... wow. These girls are incredibly special.
