"Shock treatment is simply closed-head injury caused by an overwhelming current of electricity sufficient to cause a grand mal seizure." Psychiatrist Peter Breggin, " the brain and mind are so drastically injured that he or she is unable to protest"

How could ANY credence be given to this "study" when you find things like this included ...

"To make Dr. Puffer’s study even more suspect, despite a 1979 federal law requiring makers of ECT devices to prove to the Food and Drug Administration, FDA, that the machines are safe and effective, to date, none of the manufacturers have complied with the law."

It must be idiots like Puffer that believe there's money to be made that turn this bogus BS into the laws that your own country knows all to well, giving the "powers that be" the right to give EST to damn near anyone they feel like, including kids. It's obscene :( thanks Iona

That's terrible! Children should not be subjected to this kind of torture.

"Keeping in mind that the APA cannot provide any science to support that even one of its alleged psychiatric disorders is a real medical condition, it is difficult to accept this new study with any level of credibility."

"After all, if the psychiatric community cannot prove that a psychiatric disorder exists, how can it possibly prove that any “treatment,” specifically frying a child’s still developing brain with “therapeutic” electricity, is safe and effective?"

"In a nutshell, psychiatry’s theory of ECT is to induce, through electric current directly to the frontal lobes of the brain, a grand mal seizure, which will presumably “jump start” the alleged disordered brain. There are two glaring problems with the theory—no one knows how the brain works and, despite 70 years of research, nobody knows how ECT works."

Electroshock therapy for Children should not be done. It is bad enough that there are children
on psychiatric drug regimens, and could actually be responsible for the children's reported deteriorating health and suicidal behavior.

Ty, Ionna.

This is torture. We have to protect all of our children and not shock them.

Thank you Iona.
Jim Phillips' quotes from the article say it all.
The infamous Judge Rotenberg Center also gives shock 'therapy' too.

Psychiatry is famous for having created 400 'mental illness' terms, without having proven the cause of a single one of them---and not having a single objective clinical test to prove anyone has or doesn't have one!

But they dole out the 'treatment' in the form of powerful psychoactive drugs and ect., obviously not knowing what the hell they are doing.
Shake the marbles in the can and see if the person likes the new arrangement.

Modern version of ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEXT ... no good then, no good now -- especially on young and not fully developed children. Those promoting the idea need THEIR heads examined!

Thanks for posting. This treatment is hideous, and harks back to the 19th century. It has no place i the 21st, surely?

I take it this is the result of frying cats, monkeys, and other unfortunate lab animals brains with shock treatment with "good" results?
If the animal didn't die, well....try it on some kids.
Are these the same guys who claim waterboarding isn't torture?

It's the brains (if they have any) of those "psychiatrists" that should be boiled with electroshocks, not little kids or others.

Horrified to think that children have been, and might be in the future, subjected to this nasty treatment. I've known adults who did't come out of these "treatments" with everything in tact. Evidently there's no compassion in the people who advocate this crap. Noted.
