Where is the international outcry when thousands of christians are murdered by islamists? The peace-loving islam?

Beatrice, you know as well as I do that no-one is interested in Christians. It is about time that they rioted everytime denigrates the New Testament or makes a joke about Jesus and it should be done on Muslim holy days for greater impact.

The UK is a Christian country as is Italy so the clergy and church members should attack Muslim girls (from the age of 2 years and not be punished) and forcibly marry them at the age of 8 years after dunking their head in holy water and telling them that they are now Christians. Muslims should be forced from their homes and Christians move in as well as throwing acid at them and burning mosques. A good Muslim slaughter must make the Christians feel good!

The trouble is that Christians live in civilised countries so this is not going to happen but Islam isn't civilised and far too many Muslims abuse Christians this way. Had it been the other way then there would have been an international outcry but this does happen in far too many countries and the world silence is deafening.

Well it does not take a genius to see that the vast majority of these countries have majority Islamic populations or even not majority -- just enough Muslims to make non-Muslims miserable. One huge exception, of course, is North Korea, a prison of communist, totalitarianism, with a personality cult -- quite similar in those ways to Islam.

The website says that, "Persecution is ‘any hostility, experienced from the world, as a result of one’s identification with Christ. This can include hostile attitudes, words and actions towards Christians both from within and outside Christianity’." That's pretty vague. I also find it interesting that they include persecution from "within...Christianity". So they are including persecution from other Christians? I'm not sure what the purpose of this website is, other than to inspire fear. The website's suggestions for action are to let others know about them, and to pray, and to send them money. No indication of what the money will go toward. All they say about it is, "Give $5 a month (or more) to make a deeper impact for suffering persecuted Christians." What does that mean?

This "World Watch List" is sponsored by "Open Doors With Brother Andrew, Inc." According to their IRS form 990 ( they had about $13.5 million income in 2011 (down from nearly $25 million in 2009). Of that, nearly $3.2 million went for salaries, employee benefits and other compensation (for 49 employees); nearly $2.1 million went for fundraising and they had over $3.3 million in "other expenses" (which included another $1.1 million for fundraising). Some $6.7 million goes to "Grants and other assistance to governments and organizations in the United States". NONE of the money seems to go to directly making "a deeper impact for suffering persecuted Christians." Overall, they ended up with a net loss of nearly $64,000 for the year. It's generally a bad idea to donate to a "charity" that spends more than half its income on overhead and fundraising.

I would also note that they also offer the "opportunity" for "individuals and organized teams from your church, college, men’s ministry, women’s ministry, Bible study group, or friends to come face to face with our church brethren living under persecution." For a price, of course. Current travel "opportunities" are to Columbia (#46 on their list) and Tibet (not listed). Might be fun, but hardly useful in combating Christian persecution.

The article says these are 'extremist' Muslims, but sadly that is NOT the case. Islam teaches that Muslims should be 'harsh' with non-Muslims and kill them. So those Muslims who act this way are Orthodox true-believing Muslims, not extremists or radicals.

"You have seen what Muhammad has done. Arabs have submitted to him and we do not have the strength to fight…And no one even dares go outside for fear of being terrorized.” — Tabari IX:42

“. . . slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush. . .” Q 9:5

"Instill terror in the hearts of the unbelievers". Qur'an 8:12

"Your Lord inspired the angels with the message: 'I will terrorize the
unbelievers. Therefore smite them on their necks and every joint and
incapacitate them. Strike off their heads and cut off each of their fingers
and toes." Qur'an 8.12

And there are so many more hateful verses like these - 109 in the Qur'an alone and many more in the Sunnah. What IS amazing is that more Muslims aren't obeying these demonic hateful commands.

Where is the outrage!!!???

We all know full well that if these hate crimes were against Muslims that the worldwide media and our benighted leaders would be ranting and raving about all this 'islamophobia', but they are all quiet on the ethnic cleansing and even genocide against Christians, Jews, Buddhists etc.

Where is Obama? Even Western Christian leaders are silent even when the Christians from the hateful lands beg them for help. Last year several Church leaders from the Middle East came to Washington DC to beg Obama to help stop the ethnic cleansing of their people by Muslims across the Muslim occupied world and he refused to even meet with them. This from a man who admits to having 'hundreds' of meetings with Muslim terrorist supports from CAIR, a US Muslim Brotherhood front group.

And Obama has bent over backward to help the Saudi-backed Muslim Brotherhood seize power in the so-called Arab Spring revolutions (where Christians and others are being zealously persecuted right now), just like they are trying to do now in Syria where all the religious minorities that have been treated quite well under Assad rule will be ethnically cleansed, murdered or driven out as the 'rebels' Obama supports have openly declared they will do. Whose side is he on? It's pretty obvious.

Again I ask - Where is the outrage?

BTW this is an interesting for understand why Islam is so intolerant:

Tina Magaard is a linguist who got her Ph.D. in Intercultural Communication from the Sorbonne, and did a three-year study of the original texts of the world's ten largest religions. One of her findings was that Islam's core texts are the most aggressive against other groups.

Islam is the only religion that does NOT teach the Golden Rule except for fellow Muslims, and the only one that commands death for those who criticize or leave it. This is NOT a religion of peace and tolerance by any stretch of the imagination, which is what you have to have a lot of to believe the denials and outright lies by the Islamist who say it is. It is estimated that in its 1400 years of trying to conquer the world for Allah, Islam has slaughtered 270 Million innocent people! Peace? Tolerance? There is zero evidence of this bold lie.

I notice that so-called 'moderate' Muslim ruled Indonesia is listed as 'Moderate' in their persecution of Christians too. So I guess Obama is correct, it's just that too many of us thought he meant something very different. Yet in 'moderate' Indonesia over 300 churches have been closed or destroyed along with uncountable Buddhist temples (in the once-Buddhist land before Islam's invasion). And this is supposed to be one of the more tolerant Muslim dominated countries!?

I'm surprised Turkey isn't on the list, but that is perhaps because they've succeeded in killing or driving out virtually all Christians in this once Christian kingdom of Byzantium before the Muslim invasion and conquest. Three million Christians were slaughtered in the 1900s under Ataturk because he wanted to 'cleanse' (his word) Turkey of all non-Muslims. He succeeded very well and he is held up as a model of 'moderate' Islam even today around the world!

Turkey is still destroying the remaining few Christian churches and monasteries left out of some 3000 left behind by the 'cleansed' Christian Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians. This is the first time the term 'genocide' was used and, as now, the western leaders did nothing and didn't care. BUT don't try to burn a Qur'an or Muslims across the world will riot and kill and our media and cowardly 'leaders' will rage over this 'hate crime'! A pox be on all of them.

Unfortunately I have come to believe that there is "silence" for one of two or both reasons to follow: 1) fear of Islamic reprisal; 2) most of those Christians persecuted by Moslems are not white, Western Christians.

Or maybe it’s time for some Christians to get over their persecution complex and realize
that it’s not just about them. Realize maybe that if you are an outsider to a regional culture, you are possibly seen as a threat by your simple act of being there..... or by your past actions. Remember those crusades? Those inquisitions soooooo long ago? Yeah, the people you’re accusing of religious intolerance remember them too. Sometimes time does not heal old wounds, and for Christian leaders to STILL routinely assert that another faith is damnable because they don’t adhere to your dogma tends to make people a little bit edgy. You don’t live in a bubble, the things you say and the actions you take, do make their way around the world, especially when they are preached from the pulpit (or on T.V.).

But maybe it’s not a question of faith but rather a matter of East versus West, Maybe this persecution you perceive is a matter of blowback from a region that has suffered ten years of unjustifiable war and more than a century of Western aggression and incivility by nations who proclaim themselves to be Christian nations but do not act at all “Christian”.

And don’t get me wrong here, I am not defending Islam, or any other screwy worldview like Christianity, I’m trying to help you see (hopefully) that it’s not just about you. As a white American of no faith, I know that were I to travel to one of these regions I would be treated just as poorly as you, probably worse. But were I to suffer at the hand of a religious zealot you would claim that I somehow deserved it, where if it were you, it would simply be another case of Christian persecution by those barbaric Islamists.

You can’t simply bash someone over the head with the extended arm of your military and then expect them to *like* you because you follow a nice guy in a book.

GEE! WHAT A SHOCKER! "Islam....the religion of PEACE?"

And what's going on in Colombia? and I both know this is a disgusting practice...whether or not it's "religiously based," it's a crime against a group of peoople and civilized nations tend to FROWN on that.

No religious group should persecute another. Far, far too many people have died as a result of religious hatred. Wouldn't it be a better way if we could all learn to respect our differences, and live in peace with each other?

If we are going to fight with each other and kill each other, I wish we could find a better justification than religion. Of all the stupid and senseless things to be at odds about, religion has to be right up there at the top. Every religion has a faction who are delusional enough to believe that they are intimate with God's intentions, and they are willing to kill anyone who disagrees with them. Intolerance by the so-called "Religious Right," (Fundamentalists of all religions) has caused too much pain and suffering in the world. When is enough, enough? Most of us just want to be left alone. If you want to worship stones and broken glass, fine, just keep it to yourself and let the rest of us take our chances with the great hereafter! Don't try to save us with your brand of eternal grace, because we don't want it!

Hey Prof,

You are very behind the curve, and there's a major lacuna in your rationale.

"But maybe it’s not a question of faith but rather a matter of East versus West...."

So it's a magnetic field shift between the East and the West that accounts for this? You sound like you're part of the shallow, knee-jerk, Leftist-headed academic militia scooping out this slop to your impressionable students.

Why do you think there is a difference between the East and the West? The Islamic East is stuck in the Middle Ages, because of their ideology as espoused in the immutable word of allah in the Quran and Hadiths, tells them that Christians, Jews, and ALL religions are inferior to Islam. It tells them that they are to take over the world and ALL people EVERYWHERE will be under Sharia.

It tells them things like this lovely verse: ""I will create terror into the hearts of the unbelievers; smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them.” Quran 8:12

But there's well over a hundred more verses urging Muslims to do multiple forms of violence against the "kuffar".

Do you think that all the verses of hatred in the Quran and Hadiths might have something to do with it? Do you think that virtually everywhere in the world where there are Hindus, Buddhists, Jaines, Christians, Jews, and so on, there is violence, hatred and killing by Islamists to ALL of these people is just a coincidence?

I think it's instructive to look at the last 30 days in the world of Islam -- and each prior set of 30 days -- is very much like the previous ones. I think you need to go back and do some serious studying of Islam -- the real one, not the one that Islamic propagandists like to fool their Western audiences with.

@ Beth S.

NIcely presented,

In my own defense, I am not in any way trying to defend Islam, its adherents or sympathizers. I was merely trying to point out that this is not simply a case of Christian persecution. This is a matter of the persecution of all world views, as I think you pointed out in your response. And while the presenter tries to paint this as an Islam v Christianity issue I think you will notice that the article presents regions around the world where the “persecutor’s” have no affiliate ties to islam.

The intent of my post was to try and state that just because you are the victim of prejudice, violence or murder, that prejudicial treatment does not necessarily imply it is coming at you simply because you happen to be Christian. I am sorry it appears that I failed to make that clear.

My only real issue with the article is that it attempts to ascribe all prejudicial violence around the world as violence against Christians and that is simply not true.

I also wanted to present the idea that *ALL* violence from the middle east is not directed at the west solely because we claim to be of ‘Christian’ nationalities. As for legitimate violence against Westerners or peoples other faith other than Islam as laid out in the Koran, I think you make a valid argument.

I agree that something should be done, and that there needs to be enough people to demand that the people responsible be prosecuted-EVERY TIME.I do not feel that violence is the way to do it,or hating any grooup of people. If someone generates a petition,or a bunch of petitions, and gets people to sign them,I will do my part by signing and getting others to do the same. Please inform me if anyone makes or discovers one.Thank you.

Justice, I know it is not easy, but when dealing with other ideologies, one must understand the culture of the particular ideology. Thinking and behaving like a Westerner will not influence Islamic extremists. It is a constant battle where they have to be put into a position where it doesn't pay for them, at least temporarily, to behave the way they do. It is not easy. The first thing that must be done is for the leaders of the West and the Church to "shout from the rooftops" against the action of these extremists.
