Bottled Water 'Bad as Smoking' - Australia

DRINKING bottled water is so anti-environment that it should be made as unfashionable as smoking. A British study has found that drinking a bottle of water has the same impact on the environment as driving a car a kilometre.

Shouldn't they post this in the grocery store so people think before they buy?

We switched a year ago to filtered mains water which we put through a 'Sodastream' or 'Soda Club' machine to make our own sparkling water ata fraction of the price...no more lugging home bottles and no more wasted bottles.

We have a home tabletop distiller, that has more than paid for itself over the years. I've read on here somewhere distilled water is bad for you, it has no oxygen. But it is the cleanest water. After drinking it so long, regular tap water doesn't taste good at all, even in a restaurant I don't want a hot tea, I'll wait till I get home. Noted, thanks Chrissy.

We are in the lucky position of not being on town water, having our own rain water tanks, which also goes through a filter under the tap. best water anywhere and can't stand the taste of water when we visit people!

Much depends if people want to drink the FLUORIDE

Small distillers do NOT remove fluoride.
Boiling the water INCREASES it.
Fluoride is also taken in via the skin when you BATHE in the water.

The only quelms I have about bottled water is all the plastic bottles.
The oceans are already awash with plastic.

If they want to ban bottled water (as has already been suggested by some) then should we not also ban all the soda and pop - much of which also comes in plastic bottles.

My thoughts are - be careful what you wish for :

READ ABOUT FLUORIDE and decide.

Their long term intentions is to CONTROL food and water -
CONTROL the masses
and all this (alleged) man made global warming is the latest tool - `war on climate change`
same as `war on terror` - `war on muslims`

If you havent seen that yet, then I guess the FLUORIDE is doing its job by dumbing people down, so they wont notice that they are being poisoned. Its a good tool for POPULATION REDUCTION.

I have used a Pur Plus Water Filter for years and have given one to my mother and each of my two sons.
I have recently quit using straws and lids for soft-drinks on the go.
Now, to remember to tell the fast-food places not to give me plastic-ware!
I keep a running list of the life-style changes I have made to help the environment. I get new ideas most every day. Step one is to stop and THINK! Every little bit helps!

I used to think that because I recycled that it was ok to buy it. After finding out how much oil and water it takes to make these bottles I quit doing it! Another plus is I don't have to make as many trips to the recycle center thus using less gas!

Let's not forget the study that said that women have a higher risk for cancer if they drink water that has been in a plastic container for longer than three months (not sure which University it was conducted at). So not only is it bad for the environment; but it might be a health hazard as well.

I think if more people had water tanks they would kick that bottled water habit and see it for what it really is.
I've tasted that crap they call natural spring water in a bottle and believe me, it's NOT natural spring water.
Growing up we were lucky enough to have a natural spring where we got our drinking water and to this day REAL natural spring water that you manually dip out of a spring yourself is the only thing better than rain water, in my opinion.
Just today I seen a new bottled water that is bottled right here in Australia, who woulda thunk. The only ground water I've seen in Australia has salt in it. Mmm fresh bottled bore water.

Have two hyge water tanks. I wouldnever buy water in a bottle, when I got it for free. Just a fad I hope, those trendies with their water bottle. I have to green when I see them sucking on this bottle all day long. What happened to a nice cup of tea? LOL

Thanks also Stacy C.P. for the info on bottled water plastic leaching into the water, I wondered about that. Just got some bottled water at Whole Foods at a great deal, then I looked at the date when I got home and it was bottled almost a year ago. I gave the rest to my houseplants, hope they can absorb the shock!
