Man's best friend has proven himself again, this time saving a three-year-old toddler from the bite of a venomous snake. Diesel, a blue cattle dog-cross, leapt between his young friend and a huge brown snake, receiving a near-fatal bite himself.

See what a treasure our pets are? So glad that the little boy and Diesel are alright. Thank you for this story Chrissy.

I love success stories. Just wish I can convince the Chinese fur industries that a dog is a companion and nothing else!

If you treat an animal right, that animal will do for you in return & this story proves it.

Dogs have a thing about snakes. I used to have a border collie that would go ballistic over brown garden snakes trying to slink across our yard! Thank goodness she never crossed a poisonous one! She would also fiercely protect my daughter, and if my daughter was sick, would never leave her side. I still miss that sweet dog, to this day....thanks, Chrissy.

I am so glad that everyone including Diesel are okay. Those brown snakes can be very aggressive! ummm......what happened to the snake? Is it still there? Or did it slink away?

I've always said the best dog is an Australian Blue Healer. We had one for nearly 20 years and it so loyal, followed the children everywhere until she got too old. I always knew where they all were. She was my best friend and I still miss her even now after 17 years. Good on you Diesel

This is such a sweet story... & at the end they say how can you put a worth on a heroic dog.. wished more would think of a dog part of the family..we had a pert German Shepherd & & Collie & he was as loyal .. saved me when I was going down a river on a rift at 3 years old.. dogs are wonders.. we spoiled that one & he was so much part of the family.. when he died I had no shovel so it took me 3 days to dig a hole with a sharp rock... he was missed so much after him.. God Bless These Special Family Dogs .. one day the ones that are using them wrong will see... ONE DAY !!!!

Noted and thank you for the story Chrissy, so glad it had a good outcome!

The Brown Snake is among Australia's most venomous. Dogs are God's most wonderful loyal and brave creatures; they don't hesitate to give their life for you, as this story showed.

Brown snakes are truly a very venomous snake. I am so pleased all are well. I have two Blue Heelers, didn't know much about them before as I am English but can say they are the most loyal, loving, faithful, gentle, playful and intelligent dogs I have ever owned - and I had German Shepherds before.
