Meeting pets can test new relationships. "In the old days, you had to meet the mother. Now you have to meet the dog and get the dog's approval," says Stephanie LaFarge, director of counselling services for the ASPCA and an expert on the human-animal bond.

Interesting. I have always said "if the child or dog doesn't like him...run away!" And, it is true. Thanks for the post.

Most dog lovers know that the cells within a dog nose are far beyond humans. We do very well with all our five-senses, but no human can smell a fire three miles away. No human can sense the fingerprint of someone they've never met. What our canines lovingly offer is that they can, and do. Why? Because they love us. They freely offer their companionship; their extraordinary sense of understanding our particular needs. We can learn so much from our canine pals, but first we need to want their companionship. Bonding with any animal first requires acknowledgement of their abilities. When we open our hearts to these creatures, they know it immediately. They are intelligent enough to know if we are sincere. All they want to do is share with you their incredible gifts. In combat, I've learned, having a canine can be the difference of life and death. Frankly, I respect greatly their special gifts and want them to know I understand. Then, you will have a friend for life. ~Peace~

Fortunately, my four-legged 'kids' loved Mr. Kim when they met him; we've added another dog and 2 cats to our 'family' since marrying.

WHEN I PICK OUT A NEW PUPPY, THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS I LOOK FOR. 1. EYE CONTACT, THIS MEANS THEY ARE ALERT AND INTRESTED IN NEW THINGS, WHICH WILL MAKE IT EASIER FOR TRAINING. 2. IF THEY WALK UP TO YOU, THIS MEANS THEY ARE SOCIABLE WILL LIKE PEOPLE AND BE FRIENDLY TO YOU AND YOUR EVERY ONE IT MEETS. 3 IF THEY WELCOME YOU WHEN YOU PICK THEM UP WITH A KISS, THIS MEANS THEY ACCEPT YOU AND FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH YOU. IF A PUPPY FEELS ALL THEESE GUIDE LINES YOU HAVE NOW FOUND YOUR SPEACIAL FREIND.
