Climate Chief Lord Stern: Give Up Meat to Save the Planet

"Meat is a wasteful use of water and creates a lot of greenhouse gases. It puts enormous pressure on the world's resources. A vegetarian diet is better." Direct emissions of methane from cows and pigs is a significant source of greenhouse gases.

Agree totally with vege-diet to save us all from impending global warming and health issues. But come hell high water when epidemic of heart diseases, cancer and other life threatening diseases caused by meat consumption due to toxic chemicals fed to these poor animals for quick maturity then the humans will be left with no other alternative but turn to a vege.life style.According to medical report of a steady increases of such diseases this won't be in the distant future but SOON!!!

The human body was not designed to consume all that animals fat especially since we stop our nomadic way of life. Our seditary lifestyle prevents us from using up all that daily fat intake.

" "People change their notion of what is responsible. They will increasingly ask about the carbon content of their food.” "

Less meat consumption means less carbon, less methane, less nitrous oxide pollution, less animal suffering, less waste of water, less fertilizer run-off going into waterways and the sea, fewer health problems. Maybe the destruction of rainforest will halt due to the decreased demand for land to raise cattle, too.

being vegetarian not only saves animals from getting on the dinner plate but it also saves the planet from global warming. Global warming will not "go away" but with meat being cut off from the menu and from one's diet, global warming can be slowed down and the planet will go back to the state it originally was in beofre the age of heat.

Not all people are willing to give up eating meat and go for a vegan or vegetarian diet, but if one is to have a vegetarian diet for at laest 3-4 days a week, that's already a big help for the animals and for the earth. But if one can and is willing to give up the consumption of meat and go for a vegan/vegetarian diet, then that's much better.

Thanks for the news!

if i said it once, i've said it a thousand times...

breeding nonhumans for food etc. is not only unjust, but it is also killing the planet... seriously, if humans continue the destructive, unethical, & speciesist practice of exploiting animals as resources & properties, we will soon be killing each other in a battle over what little sustinence there is left on the planet. it is not in the least a sustainable endeavour. only we can make the choice to avoid this end.

this choice is part of our evolution, & our imperative as stewards of this earth.

I'm vegetarian, would like to give up milk, but don't find an alternative. However it is mainly a question of moral, and the love for the creation and the fact that I do not want to cause any suffering. (Although....)

While not everyone is willing to become a vegetarian or vegan overnight, a good target to start with would be IMO reducing meat consumption by 50%. That would vastly improve things.

We eat far toooooooooo much red meat... we are so governed by our stomachs and the foods we are brought up on... education and control should be so implmented that health choices can be choosen and control in order to stop the obseity in this day and age... I have cut back on red meat and hopefully will do it step by step

I gave up meat a while ago - it didn't make sense to me and being an animal lover; it was in complete opposition to everything I believed in.
If the moral and emotional arguments in favour of animals and vegetarianism don't work in convincing someone to give up meat, I hope the rational one in favour of the environment do. Just as long as we stop subjugating, torturing and killing animals.

Finally, a person of note WILLINGLY TO PUBLICLY STATE WHAT MANY OF US HAVE KNOWN FOR YEARS NOW...!

Thank you, Lord Stern, for having the courage and fortitude to actually make the statement publically after viewing scientific data. We need more leaders to speak THE TRUTH like you have done. Thank you, thank you, the animals murdered for their flesh may actually finally get some relief from the evil injustice perpetrated on them every day, without cease.

Stern is NOT a climate expert. He's an economist who used to work for the World Bank.

The Banksters want you poor, starving or dead.

"The Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change, the most comprehensive review ever carried out on the economics of climate change, was published on October 30 2006 and was lead by Lord Stern, the then Head of the Government Economic Service and former World Bank Chief Economist.

Lord Stern stepped down as Head of the Government Economic Service in March 2007 to take up the IG Patel Professorship at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Nicholas Stern became Lord Stern of Brentford in December 2007, when he was appointed to the House of Lords as a non-party-political peer."

"The Banksters want you poor, starving or dead."
And what 'banksters' would that be Judy?
I thought it was the 'elitists' that were behind the world domination plot. Now it's the 'Banksters'. A lot of high-sounding words bandied about.

Let's have names. Exact names and these individual's EXACT actions that 'want you poor, starving, or dead', since it's quite an accusation for any sane person to hear (but don't let that faze you). Amazingly I'm sure you know all about it and them. Can you say ego-mania?

Oh, and who is 'you' that you're referring to?

From the article:

He predicted that people’s attitudes would evolve until meat eating became unacceptable. “I think it’s important that people think about what they are doing and that includes what they are eating,” he said. “I am 61 now and attitudes towards drinking and driving have changed radically since I was a student. People change their notion of what is responsible. They will increasingly ask about the carbon content of their food.”

Personally, any reason to stop eating the animals is great, just as long as they stop.

Hopefully, climate change will do the trick, the sooner the better.

“The common enemy of humanity is man.
In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up
with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming,
water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All these
dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through
changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome.
The real enemy then, is humanity itself."
- Club of Rome

Club of Rome membersThe Origin of the Club of Rome

The Conference on Conditions of World Order was held from June 12-19, 1965 at the Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio, Italy, sponsored by the Congress for Cultural Freedom, with a grant from the Ford Foundation and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. A group of 21 scholars, writers and scientists from all over the world met to define the concepts of world order. A segment of their report by Helio Jaguaribe said:

"The establishment of world order depends not only on its intrinsic desirability and viability, but also on the support of men and groups who decide to dedicate themselves to the completion of such a goal. As increasing sectors of developed and underdeveloped societies begin to realize the urgent necessity of world order, the viability of its establishment, and the fact that it can be achieved by adopting measures which are reasonable in themselves, none of the governments will be able to escape public pressure for establishing world order ...

It is incumbent upon the intellectuals to play the decisive role in the formation of pressure groups in favor of world order ... the establishment of world order demands the mobilization of groups dedicated to international pressure for the gradual implantation of that world order ... the negotiated establishment of world order is theoretically possible and practically feasible since, in the last analysis, the probable effects of nuclear conflagration have made way an impractical alternative to the peaceful solution of contemporary problems."

Three years later, in April, 1968 a think-tank of financiers, scientists, economists, politicians, heads of state, and industrialists from ten different countries, again met at Rockefeller's private estate in Bellagio, Italy, at the request of Aurelio Peccei, the Italian industrialist who had close ties to Fiat and the Olivetti Corporation. He claimed to have solutions for world peace and prosperity, which could be accomplished through world government. The Club of Rome (COR) was established with a membership of 75 prominent scientists, industrialists, and economists from 25 countries, which along with the Bilderberg, have become one of the most important foreign policy arms of the Round Table group.

Many of the COR executives were drawn from NATO and they have been able to formulate a lot of what NATO claims are its policies. Through Lord Carrington, they were able to split NATO into two factions: a left-wing political group whose doctrine was formed on the basis of Peccei's book Human Quality, and its former military alliance.

The first Club of Rome conference in the U.S. was in 1969, where the American branch was organized as the "American Association of the Club of Rome." Among its members were:

* Norman Cousins (honorary Chairman of Planetary Citizens)
* John Naisbitt (author of Megatrends)
* Amory Lovins (a speaker at Windstar, John Denver's New Age center in Snowmass, Colorado)
* Betty Friedan (founding President of NOW, the National Organization of Women)
* Jean Houston and Hazel Henderson (New Age authors and speakers)
* Robert O. Anderson and Harlan B. Cleveland (CFR members and part of the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies)
* Sen. Claiborne Pell (D-RI)
* Rep. Frank M. Potter (staff director of the House Subcommittee on Energy).

So the Club of Rome affirms that man is his own worst enemy. That seems obvious to me.

I wonder if Judy will champion the eating of meat now. Her love for fossil fuels is already well known.

More about the Club of Rome:
http://www.clubofrome.org/eng/about/4/
{{{The Birth of the Club of Rome:

A quiet villa and a big bang

In April 1968, a small international group of professionals from the fields of diplomacy, industry, academia and civil society met at a quiet villa in Rome. Invited by Italian industrialist Aurelio Peccei and Scottish scientist Alexander King, they came together to discuss the dilemma of prevailing short-term thinking in international affairs and, in particular, the concerns regarding unlimited resource consumption in an increasingly interdependent world.

Each participant in the meeting agreed to spend the next year raising the awareness of world leaders and major decision-makers on the crucial global issues of the future. They would offer a new and original approach in doing this, focusing on the long-term consequences of growing global interdependence and applying systems-thinking in order to understand why and how it was happening. The Club of Rome was born.

The originality of their approach soon became clear. In 1972 the campaigning of this growing group of like-minded individuals gained a new worldwide reputation with the first report to the Club of Rome: "The Limits to Growth", commissioned by the Club from a group of systems scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Report explored a number of scenarios and stressed the choices open to society to reconcile sustainable progress within environmental constraints.

The international effects of this publication in the fields of politics, economics and science are best described as a 'Big Bang': over night, the Club of Rome had demonstrated the contradiction of unlimited and unrestrained growth in material consumption in a world of clearly finite resources and had brought the issue to the top of the global agenda.

With its focus on long-term vision and provocative scenarios, the report sold more than 12 million copies in some 30 languages worldwide.

Building on this success, the Club of Rome membership grew as it continued to produce reports on the global issues it identified. Particularly, the goal of raising long-term awareness among world leaders and decision-makers regarding the delicate interaction between human economic development and the fragility of the planet was achieved, contributing to the establishment of Ministries of the Environment in numerous countries.

The Eighties and Nineties:

Grappling with Growing Complexity, Globalisation and Increasing Interdependence

During the eighties, the Club of Rome continued its high-level work on a global scale. It contributed significantly to the development of the concept of sustainability, which has played an important role in highlighting the interdependence of environment and economics.

At the same time, the Club of Rome broadened the scope of its work and advanced the global agenda in the fields of education, welfare and environment. Contemporary Club of Rome reports such as Microelectronics and Society, The Future of the Oceans or No Limits to Certainty reflected common preoccupations and the growing complexity and interrelation of major global issues.

Building on the work of the eighties, the Club of Rome continued its work in the nineties by focusing on major issues such as the Digital Divide between North and South, global governance and cultural diversity. Reports such as The Capacity to Govern and Factor Four: Doubling Wealth - Halving Resource Use and No Limits to Learning were particularly influential during this period in pointing the way towards solutions.

This period also saw the emergence of several National Associations of the Club of Rome, where interested individuals would pursue activities at a national level in line with the mission of the International Club, expanding the involvement in and output of the Club as a whole.

Despite these activities, the influence that the Club of Rome had come to enjoy in its early years had started to diminish as perceptions moved towards the view that global issues would be resolved through the "Magic of the Marketplace". Other civil society initiatives began to compete with the activities of the Club, as it struggled to communicate its ideas to the international community and to attract the interest and participation of younger generations.

The Club of Rome in the 21st century

A new start

At the beginning of the 21st Century, international problems such as rising global inequality, the consequences of climate change and the overuse of natural resources have proved that the Club of Rome's fundamental views are broadly correct and have revived interest in its activities: unlimited consumption and growth on a planet with limited resources cannot go on forever and is indeed dangerous.

In recent years, the Club of Rome has embarked on a whole new range of activities and has modernised its organisation and its mission. Its commitment to finding new and practical ways of understanding global problems and turning its thinking into action are as strong as ever.

The size and number of the National Associations have continued to grow: there are now over 30 worldwide with a membership of over 1,500 committed people in five continents. They have become pillars of the Club's global work, expanding and strengthening the activities and awareness of the International Club with assistance from the Club's European Support Centre in Vienna.

Think Tank 30, known as tt30, was established in 2000 to mobilise young professionals as the Club recognised the fundamental importance of understanding the views of younger generations. It has proved to be a stimulating and invaluable organ of the Club of Rome.

In early 2008, The Club of Rome relocated its international secretariat from Hamburg, Germany to Winterthur (Canton Zurich), Switzerland. It has established a new team and is working in close cooperation with a number of private and educational institutions, as well as finding new ways to involve the general public. Since May 2008, it has also launched a new three year programme, A New Path for World Development, which will be an important focus of the Club's activities until 2012.}}}

How evil! How scary! How.......obviously necessary! LOL!

Oligarchical Collectivism is what the C of R is pushing, just as was foretold in "1984".

In the classic novel "1984", author George Orwell describes a not-too-distant future where an oppressive totalitarian elite has perfected a system of social control based on perpetual warfare, manipulation of perceived reality, and total surveillance of the population. The servile obedience of the bureaucracy and the mindless poverty of the masses keeps them in power.

In the novel, when Winston Smith is recruited by agent O'Brien to join an underground freedom movement, he is given a book attributed to the heretic Goldstein titled "The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism". In it,Orwell provides an in-depth analysis of the Party and its methods.

"It had long been realized that the only secure basis for oligarchy is collectivism. Wealth and privilege are most easily defended when they are possessed jointly. The so-called 'abolition of private property' meant in effect the concentration of property in far fewer hands than before...with the result, foreseen and intended beforehand, that economic inequality has been made permanent."

"Oligarchical Collectivism is what the C of R is pushing, just as was foretold in "1984"."

Communism is dead or dying everywhere, Judy. What the United Nations and the Club of Rome are doing would be something different; making reforms to enable policies that can improve the entire world, not just one area or one people. Since we are one species and live together on one world, that only seems logical. Of course, extremists like yourself that take seriously the propaganda from websites like the "Modern History Project" don't care much for consistent logic.

Look at this gem:

http://www.modernhistoryproject.org/mhp/NewsDisplay.php

{{{Citizen of the World Topic: Political 2009-08-02
Barack Hussein Obama, whom the humanist/socialists adore with the irrational fervor usually reserved for the Virgin Mary, has declared himself to be a "citizen of the world" on more than one occasion. It sounds so progressive, doesn't it? However, the fact remains that one must be a citizen of the United States of America in order to hold the office of the Presidency, and that's where his loyalty should remain.
After months of rumor and conjecture about Mr. Obama's uncertain origins, fuelled by his stonewalling on the issue and failure to release supporting documentation, a flaky Israeli attorney has produced an alleged Kenyan birth certificate for him, consistent with his Kenyan grandmother's reported claim that he was born in that British colony. But is this just another fraud? It seems so.

A more credible investigator has revealed some major discrepancies in the timeline from Obama's campaign biography, based on official records, which suggest a much different history:

{{"Ann Dunham and Barack H. Obama, Sr.'s divorce decree states they were married Feb. 2, 1961, in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii. This would mean Obama's parents were married approximately three months after Barack Obama, Jr. was conceived... [and] Instead of staying in Hawaii with her husband and new baby, Ann Dunham began classes at the University of Washington in Seattle in September 1961 for the autumn semester, less than two months after Obama was born." -- Jerome Corsi}}

Dunham hopped into bed with Obama (citizen of Kenya) less than two months after she started college in Hawaii, and just before her 18th birthday (assuming a 9-month pregnancy). When she found out she was pregnant, there was a "shotgun wedding" that lasted about 8 months before she abandoned him and took baby Obama with her to Seattle to attend college there instead. He then split for Boston, and Dunham went back home to momma in Hawaii after he was gone, never to return. It sounds so progressive, doesn't it?

It will be interesting to see how the investigation proceeds, and whether the Alinskyites can muddy the water sufficiently to prevent the truth from becoming known.}}}

The truth was never hidden, and hateful nuts like Jerome Corsi just stir the $#it by claiming it was.

..."the threat of global warming...All these
dangers are caused by human intervention" (the 'Club of Rome')

Well now. They just stated they believe global warming is caused by humans.
Judy doesn't and thinks it ia a hoax caused by the New World Order Conspiracists such as the 'Club of Rome'. Yet in their very own statement, they say they DO believe it is caused by humans!
What?
Huh?

Someone's screw is loose.

Someone can twist their words and meanings into something 'devilish'. And that's what a conspiracy theorist does.

One would have their hair curl from the avalanche of 'proof' flooded around on the internet of 'world domination' scenarios and 'evidences' of every sort and kind you could think of, and many you couldn't.

In the end it's all just dime-a-dozen words. I don't know of any NWO conspiracy theorist who DOES anything about it. Just words.
