Hoping to boost the number of wolves killed this year, Gov. Sara Palin announced the state would pay $150 for each wolf kill. "Permittees will be paid $150 when they bring in the left forelegs of wolves taken from any of several designated control areas."

Gov. Palin supports aerial hunting because the powerful Alaskan commercial hunting industry wants to eliminate nature's predators in order to inflate moose and caribou numbers so they can continue to cater to wealthy out-of-state trophy hunters. Trophy hunters kill the biggest, strongest and healthiest of a species, thereby weakening the gene pool.

We owe the wolves as much respect as we give our companion animals, as much as we owe our primate relatives. Wolves are an integral part of many ecosystems, and mankind's disruption of those systems lead to overpopulation, overgrazing, and epidemics of disease with no predators to cull the sick and old.

In June, her Dept. of Fish and Game pulled 14 wolf cubs from their den and shot them in the head after gunning down 14 adults, including their mothers, from a helicopter. A total of 28 wolves were killed. It is against state law to kill nursing mothers and/or their young. Nobody has been held accountable.

According to state wildlife policy, the fish and game biologists were required to look for a home for the orphaned cubs. Officials at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage said they were never contacted, even though they would have taken in and sought permanent homes for the cubs. Nobody has been held accountable.

Hoping to boost the number of wolves killed this year, Palin announced the state would pay $150 for each wolf kill. "Permittees will be paid $150 when they bring in the left forelegs of wolves taken from any of several designated control areas."

Alaska has been exploiting a loophole in a federal law against aerial hunting. This is a totally disgusting way to kill an animal - chase them in an airplane or helicopter until they are too tired to run any further, then just shoot them point blank. That's real hunting for you! Defenders of Wildlife has been fighting this for years; unfortunately just recently Alaska voters defeated a ballot initiative that would have ended this brutal practice.

From Defenders. "We faced an approximately $750,000 campaign from our opponents, including Safari Club International and a $400,000 state-funded campaign approved by Governor Sarah Palin and the Alaska legislature. They used deceptive propaganda and the authority of the Alaska government to defeat the ballot initiative."

Palin favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Her husband works for BP Oil. She also opposes the listing of the Polar Bear as an endangered species out of concern that it might inhibit oil development off Alaska's Arctic Ocean coastline and has sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at taxpayers expense in favor of Big Oil's interests.

McCain’s VP choice is under ethics investigation for abuse of power in Alaska. She's about as opposite as Hillary as a candidate could be. It will be interesting to see what happens when she confronts the national media regarding her positions on Roe v. Wade, gay rights, creationism, aerial hunting, etc.

Speaker: Governor Sarah Heath Palin (AK)
Title: Governor to Turn Over Findings from Department of Law
Date: 08/13/2008
Location: Anchorage, AK
Press Release

Governor to Turn Over Findings from Department of Law

Governor Sarah Palin today announced she will turn over findings of an inquiry by the Alaska Department of Law regarding the termination of former Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. The findings were made available to Steve Branchflower, a retired state prosecutor, who was selected earlier this month by the Legislative Council to investigate the termination of the former commissioner and allegations it might have been related to Monegan's refusal to fire State Trooper Mike Wooten, the Governor's former brother-in-law.

Immediately following the Legislative Council's move to hire Branchflower, Attorney General Talis Colberg ordered the preservation of all state documents that might be relevant to the investigation. The Department of Law has conducted informal interviews with staff from the Department of Public Safety and the Office of the Governor. Branchflower has requested that interview notes and tapes resulting from the meetings be delivered to his office.

Governor Palin this afternoon released a recording of a telephone conversation between Boards and Commissions Director Frank Bailey and an Alaska State Trooper from Ketchikan. The recording shows Bailey acted inappropriately by suggesting that he was speaking for the Governor and the First Gentleman.

“I am truly disappointed and disturbed to learn that a member of this administration contacted the Department of Public Safety regarding Trooper Wooten,” Governor Palin said. “At no time did I authorize any member of my staff to do so.”

“It is apparent that comments I made to a Department of Public Safety official regarding Trooper Wooten improperly and incorrectly implied that I was acting on behalf of the governor and/or her husband,” said Bailey. “That was wrong.”

“At no time did either the Governor or Todd Palin direct me, or imply that I should try to influence any employee to have Trooper Wooten fired,” Bailey added. “In fact, with the exception of the briefing with the Governor's security detail immediately after the election, I have never discussed Wooten with the Governor.”

Governor Palin has directed all of her staff to cooperate fully with Branchflower.

Captain Paul Watson

We need to Defeat Sarah Palin!
Forget John McCain

Commentary by Captain Paul Watson

I have to admit that the up-coming election had not gotten me very excited. I have not been worshipping at the alter of the Obamassiah. The American elections always leave me feeling nauseated over a choice between a Republicrat and a Demopublican. I’m a Ralph Nader or Dennis Kucinich supporter, men who don’t have a chance of getting elected because they actually stand for something.

And after the broken promises of Kevin Rudd and Peter Garrett in Australia I am pretty damn cynical about politicians in general.

But now John McCain has done something that has really pissed me off.

In the strangest vice-presidential choice since Dan Quayle, McCain has selected a polar bear killing, wolf slaughtering, anti abortionist, gun-toting, moose burger eating, advocate of oil drilling and natural resource destruction extreme right winger named Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska.

This choice could not be more bizarre than if he had selected Michael Palin. At least we could have had some laughs.

Forget John McCain, we’ve got to make sure that Sarah Palin does not get within the heartbeat of the Presidency.

I honestly have not seen much difference on policy between Barack Obama and John McCain. They both intend to withdraw from Iraq “responsibly” which is political speak for a prolonged withdrawal. They both want to continue the so called war on terror. They both want to escalate the war in Afghanistan. They both want to drill offshore and in Alaska. They both want to build nuclear power plants. They both display very little substance in their speeches. They both seem ready to engage the Russians in another cold war.

But today, John McCain made a decision that amounts to an open declaration of war upon the environment and wildlife.

This 44 year old former Alaskan beauty queen makes George Bush look like a liberal. This mother of five certainly does not see population growth as a serious issue and as a card carrying member of the National Rifle Association she intends to train her brood to be killers like her husband and herself.

Her husband’s favorite sport is running dogs to death pulling his ass across the tundra.

“She stands up for what's right and she doesn't let anyone tell her to sit down," John McCain has said.

Well if you consider gunning down wolves from aircraft, trophy hunting bears, running dogs to death on the trail, shooting defenseless animals, despoiling the wilderness, over-populating the planet and ignoring global warming as being right, then I guess she is the woman to vote for.

"She's fought oil companies and party bosses and do-nothing bureaucrats, and anyone who puts their interests before the people of whom she swore an oath to serve." Said McCain.

Right! She fought the oil companies, not to save the planet, but for more tax revenue for Alaska. If the corporations and Republican dinosaurs love her, she is no threat to the oilicratic ogliarchy that rules the United States.

John McCain has criticized Barack Obama for his lack of experience in foreign policy yet what kind of foreign policy experience does this woman have. She was mayor of an Alaskan town with only 9,000 people and has been a first term governor for less than two years. But she was once the beauty queen for her little town of Wasilla and she placed second in the Miss Alaska contest back in the Eighties.

Like Dan Quayle before her she is just another relatively young pretty face to offset the fact that John McCain is the oldest person in history to run for the presidency of the United States.

This small town hottie is not going to pull votes from Hillary Clinton supporters who for the most part value substance over the fact that she is a woman.

Palin’s husband Todd is 43, and a former commercial fisherman who now works in the oil fields of Alaska. He spends his time racing snow mobiles and dog sleds. He likes guns.

And she is fanatical in her stance of defending gun ownership and promoting development of the oil and gas reserves in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

She even makes Bush look like a staunch environmentalist for opposing the Bush administration's decision in May to list the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act because global warming is melting the polar ice cap. Palin said the decision could damage the economy.

We don’t want to damage the business of trophy hunting bears to save them!

She IS the NRA!

She is also such an irresponsible "pro-life" campaigner that she knowingly gave birth in April 2008 to a boy that had tested positive for Downs Syndrome. Not only did she bring this unfortunate child into the world, she now does not have the time to care for him, being Governor and now Vice Presidential Nominee and all.

This woman who says she is a foe of political corruption is presently under investigation in Alsaka by state lawmakers for firing a public safety commissioner who refused to fire a state trooper at her request. The trooper just happened to be her former brother-in-law.

McCain is gamboling on taking the votes of women and younger people with her on the ticket and considering his age, this inexperienced fanatical right winger could become the first female President of the United States.

We can’t let this happen.

If we have any hope of dealing with global warming, this woman is not going to help provide it. She will support the dismantling of the endangered species act, the marine mammal protection act and environmental legislation that we have worked hard for decades to place into law.

She will support the placement of anti-abortion judges on the Supreme Court and will encourage population growth and consumerism.

We cannot allow her to become the next potential President of the United States.

Senator Barack Obama and Vice President nominee Senator Joe Biden must be elected if we have any hope at all of protecting the natural heritage of this nation and of ending the insane foreign wars initiated by George W. Bush.

Palin is very anti-animal and is also a member of the NRA and grew up hunting moose. She is not as "progressive" as you may think. She is very conservative.

This is a blantant failure to hear the many voices who protest the action of slaughtering these beautiful animals. She obviously has a deaf ear to the many who raise this concern. Failing to hear the raised voices, makes me seriously doubt that she would hear raised vioices on any issue that would not directly benefit her own agenda. I am apalled and disgusted that such a person could even be considered a candidate for VP. Her support of this slaughter and her outrage at naming the Polar Bear as endangered is totally unforgiveable and unforgettable.

Larry Kudlow of CNBC ’ s “ Kudlow & Co. ” asked her about the possibility of becoming McCain's ticket mate:

Palin replied: “As for that VP talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day ?"

She has the possibility of being president as a VP and does not even know what the job entails.

Some people love to rant about Obama's experience but Palin has even less!!! Nice pick.

There is an article in indymedia uk "Sarah Palin is the road to the extinction of life on earth forever."
Sarah Palin is the Antigore, the biggest threat to global warming and climate change, because she states positively that human beings are not the cause of global warming. Democrats are panicking over what will happen on foreign policy if the 72 year old twice cancer stricken John McCain dies and leaves Sarah Palin in charge of our national security, but worse, what if Sarah Palin becomes the leader in our battle against climate change? Talk about putting the fox in charge of the hen house. Why did the chicken cross the road? Has this question ever been answered definitively? Why are the mother polar bears now forced to eat their children? Because they cannot get to the other side. The polar bears are the canaries in the coal mine.
(...)
The solution of John McCain and Sarah Palin to America’s global warming problem is “Drill, Drill, Drill for Oil! Drill for oil in the Alaska National Wildlife Reserve. Drill offshore. Drill, drill, drill away all of our problems, until not a drop of oil remains for our children and grandchildren, not a piece of ice remains in the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans and the Earth’s one ocean rises 40 feet permanently, submerging all but Denver, Colorado, permanently.

To show you how big big oil is, Philip Cooney spent two years in the Bush Cheney oval office doctoring the scientific research to say that human beings are not the cause of climate change and acid rain and dying lakes and oceans. Philip Cooney then was rewarded with a job at Exxon Mobil. If big coal and oil are the enemy of our planet, then George Bush, Dick Cheney, John McCain and Sarah Palin are guilty of treason.
(...)
John McCain never met Sarah Palin until the day he nominated her so who chose her, Exxon Mobil? In the current issue of Newsmax magazine Sarah Palin, the wife of an employee of British Petroleum, has reverted to the position that human beings are not responsible for global warming and climate change. Sarah Palin was asked, “What is your take on global warming and how it is affecting our country?” The woman who you are now considering putting a frail heartbeat from the Presidency answered, “A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location, but I'm not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.
(...)
Al Gore just said, “This same industry (big oil) has spent a half a billion dollars this year alone (on televison and newspaper advertising – this is how big oil controls the mainstream media – they fund it) trying to convince the public they are actually solving the problem, (of climate change) when they (big oil) are, in fact, making it worse (climate change) every single day. This (Bush) administration and the special interests (big oil) who control it lock, stock and barrel after barrel have performed this same sleight-of-hand (deceit, lies) on issue after issue. (Iraq WMD’s, Climate Change, etc.) Some of the best marketers have the worst products, (cigarettes, coal, oil) and this is certainly true of today's Republican Party (puppet masters, big oil).

The root cause of our energy problem is that the U.S. is using 20 million barrels of oil per day. Russia and Germany are only using 2.5 million barrels per day and the vast majority of countries on Earth are using under 100,000 barrels of oil per day. Our gluttonous over consumption of oil and the resource wars and vast transfer of wealth to feed this gluttony is the reason that our country has now gone from a Clinton surplus to a Bush/Cheney/McCain/Palin $10 trillion defict, and the reason that the United States is the world’s worst poisoner, murderer, of the pieces all of us are made of, air, water and earth.

The United States of America is already producing 5 million barrels of oil per day, far more than it needs. For 5 million years our ancestors survived without burning any oil until the invention of the internal combustion engine by Karl Benz 125 years ago. When Sarah Palin melts the Antarctic to line the pockets of her puppet masters, when you elect her, we will all get the bends and die. When John McCain and Sarah Palin attack Iran and her allies Russia and China for our God given right to use 50 million barrels of oil per day, the result of nuclear world war III will be a black purple radioactive cloud encircling the tiny ball called Earth for one year, a real live Hell, which Sarah Palin can say of, “I'm not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.” No Sarah, the polar bears invented the cars and the nuclear bombs, and that’s why God is forcing them now to eat their children.

I hope not but i am not sure with the American people George W Bush has been elected twice and even if Gore had a few more votes millions of people have asked for bush! I swear you Joanna especially the americans love cheap oil and they do not look any further!
I can tell you at the end of this week if Sarah will be the next VP and maybe if Mc Cain dies even the president of the USA! 44% allready if this goes up this week you know that the OIL money is doing a great job! They control the media and the government so why should not they make this Change with a woman as VP work! Its a change and i did not mention this before but she is as white as the polar bears she likes to kill so much!
Lets hope that many people will hear the truth about this new duo that is heading for the white house! She sure is a cheap trick but i am afraid it will work!

OIL and " white " values thats what they will bring up the next couple of weeks... i cannot stand all this bullshit about OBAMA! I think that he is a great guy and he deserves a chance!
No president can be worse than GWB but Palin would be the SUPER GAU for the environment . Biggest of all accidents..SUPER GAU! Tcshcernoby was a SUPER GAU! But it was nothing compared to this wonderful looking woman! I realy think she looks great!
If she would have a golden heart she would be on my friends list for sure but that lady has
a special song....ELO wrote the evil woman just for this Governor from Alaska!
