Troubled Horse Owners Are Abandoning Their Animals

Animals  (tags: horses, abandoned, animals, pets, suffering )

Unwanted horses are being left at auction barns, let go in the wild or tied to trees and fences in hopes someone will take them in. It's a growing problem in the wake of rising feed prices and new laws that bar the slaughter of horses for meat.

I would find a way to feed them. I love my animals too much to ever abandon them. I would cut back on luxury items. Thanks Tom.

Gosh, such a tragic story indeed....I am *so ashamed* that our CDN Government allows horse slaughter...the 'horror' for these beautiful animals! Now.....with all the wasteful spending of the US Government, why are there not facilities & funds appropriated for such emergency situations, so that these lovely animals can be properly taken care of in these challenging times!!!!!

I agree with Joycey...no matter how my finances might be struggling, I could NEVER ABANDON MY HORSES!!! I'd cut back on luxury items and even cut my right arm off before doing something foolish lik ABANDOMENT!!!

And I also agree with Valerie!! We need a program for emergencies that would allow horse owners to have money for feed if they ever needed it!! Noted with anger! Thanks, Tom.

There is always away, when you become the owner of a horse you enter into a contract with that horse, that contract states that you will do every thing humanly possible to see for its well being. Be it get another job to help with the feed and vet bills , or give up on luxuries, or even renting him for escorted rides for people who can not afford horses but like to ride. There is always away to take care of the one you love and when you take care of a horse love is also part of that contract. There is no renigging on that. If you love something you fight like heck to take care of it no matter what it takes.

I have a friend who does her best to save any critter; she is now struggling to afford feeding/caring for these poor animals.I donated several hundreds $ this year towards situations just like these. We need some type of assistance program designed for animals & the people who struggle to care for the rescued ones/neglected or otherwise. Animals deserve 'life' & quality living just as much as we do ...if not more!
