The Bush Administration's last minute environmental policy changes include getting wolves off the Endangered Species List, allowing power plants to operate near national parks and loosening regulations for factory farm waste and mountaintop coal-mining.

"The Bush administration has had eight years in office and has issued more regulations than any administration in history," said Eli Lehrer of the Competitive Enterprise Institute. "At this point, in the current economic climate, it would be especially harmful to push through ill-considered regulations in the final days of the administration."

John Kostyack of the National Wildlife Federation, which joined Lehrer's group to call for a ban on these last-minute rules, said citizens are cut out of the process, allowing changes in U.S. law that the public opposes, such as rolling back protections under the Endangered Species Act.

WHAT'S THE RUSH?

The Bush team has urged that these regulations be issued no later than Saturday, so they can be put in effect by the time President George W. Bush leaves office on January 20.

If they are in effect then, it will be hard for the next administration to undo them, and in any case, this may not be the top priority for a new president, said Matt Madia of OMB Watch, which monitors the White House Office of Management and Budget, through which these proposed regulations must pass.

I saw this yesterday and it is no surprise to me. It is said he wants to stay in the background so people can focus on the election, but we know what he is really doing. Hoping we will be distracted so he can go about his dirty work uninterrupted.

The scum is just using the fact that the nation is focused on the election and sees him as a lame duck president. They forgot that his sword can still cut a swath through our lives. This scum will be screwing us until the last second. I have no words to describe what my opinion of this _________ is.

Bush has the lowest approval rating on record, so he thinks if we put him down, he can continue his crap in the shadows. Going to be a bad time from now until January 20th...keep your eyes open. Thanks, Tom.

When you look at the constant deliberate damage the Cheney Cabal has done to this country - and to the world!- for personal gain, doesn't it rise to the level of being a TRAITOR?? If the President and Veep breaking ALL laws AND selling-out the country does not count, I don't see that anything any other Nutcase does could be worse!

If Obama wins tonight(and it looks that way, I hope), Palin can go back to Alaska and kill all the wolves she wants and in any way she wants with the
blessings of Washington. How sad.

Bush is being his typical bastardly moronic self to the end of his reign of Terror on the American Public and the World. I'm a USA expat who has been living away for many years although I return annually for family and environmental reasons. WE must wake up the general Public to the fact that GW Bush & Co have made the World an UNsafe place and start to rectify the damage. Seems they are getting the point now. No matter who is elected into office, people power must reign supreme and overcome the deadly dangerous edicts of Govt officials.

We shouldn't be surprised that twig, Duh bya, AXIS of EVIL, whatever, (THEY) he's gone> Like on SNL when Bush remarks to the statement: he, Duhbya, is the one that makes the decisions and we follow his lead, comments back "That's not what Cheney told me" STUPID is as STUPID DOES!!!
He will attack the environment for his oil & gas buddies, anyone heard of Halliburton, with everything that he can. Some of his BS may be hard to overturn, but again, "YES WE CAN!!!"

When I heard the results of the presidential election my first thoughts where "Today a great light shines on the people of Earth for they have spoken". Even those in the African continent recognise the important of this battle but the war is still to be won. Chins UP! Every voice adds to the chorus of LIGHT!!

I got chills reading this brief, but very truthful op-ed from Paul
Krugman at the New York Times. Barack Obama's win was just
one step into the future, lets hope Krugman's words ring loud and clear
for future generations - Beware the Monsters...

The monster years

Last night wasn’t just a victory for tolerance; it wasn’t just a mandate for progressive change; it was also, I hope, the end of the monster years.

What I mean by that is that for the past 14 years America’s political life has been largely dominated by, well, monsters. Monsters like Tom DeLay, who suggested that the shootings at Columbine happened because schools teach students the theory of evolution. Monsters like Karl Rove, who declared that liberals wanted to offer “therapy and understanding” to terrorists. Monsters like Dick Cheney, who saw 9/11 as an opportunity to start torturing people.

And in our national discourse, we pretended that these monsters were reasonable, respectable people. To point out that the monsters were, in fact, monsters, was “shrill.”

Four years ago it seemed as if the monsters would dominate American politics for a long time to come. But for now, at least, they’ve been banished to the wilderness.
