As we enter 2008 - total cost of foodstuffs imported by the neediest countries rose 25%, to $107 million over 2007; reserves of cereals have dramatically declined;there are only 8 weeks of corn left in reserve; but food prices are soaring.

Hi Jaylena, Yes, whilst we need to keep focusing on climate change, we also need to be aware that world foodstocks are rapidly dwindling. When Iooked into it, I got pretty alarmed. Because of the scarcity of cereals for example, wheat prices have risen by $130 per ton, or 52%, over the last year. Which of course just means people in the neediest countries can't afford basic foodstuff. I think food shortages, plus scarcity of water, will be a very real issue in the 21st Century.

Look at this paragraph....
and in the next post I will post the link of my article few weeks ago..

Demand for cereals and grains comes from two sources: an increasing global population and cattle that need to be raised and fed to cater for a growing population of meat-eaters. Higher oil costs also impact on shipping rates putting enormous stress on nations that need to import food. Climate destabilization has seen unusual weather events and patterns - such as droughts, floods and hurricanes - and these have decreased production in important exporting countries like Australia and Ukraine.
