Neanderthals may have died out earlier than before thought, researchers say. These findings hint that Neanderthals did not coexist with modern humans as long as previously suggested, investigators added.

Very interesting. I have been reading that the original "modern" humans destroyed the Neanderthals when they came into contact (if they did, now I don't know either) with them because they were smarter and more cunning. Nothing much has changed since then, huh?

I used to know someone who looked just like the guy in the picture. Maybe since there's only one DNA the gene got turned on somehow? Hmmm now about our politicians.....

TY for posting Kevin. I saw a very good episode on Nova about this very thing and then another special about the level of sophistication of Neanderthal flint-knapping. Ideas are being revised about Neanderthals; that they weren't as primitive as previously thought, that there may have been a great deal of variation amongst Neanderthal populations; and some of us 'modern humans' carry Neanderthal DNA. Fascinating.

You can imagine it, current humans talking jibberish circles around them and literally talking them to death or smiling and friendly and then stabbing them in the back the minute they turned away. Oh and probably luring the the women with bright shiny objects and various wonders of nature then truning them into sex slaves and finally just slaves....and getting a good laugh over it...

I am still at a loss as to why they died out. The only thing I can think of is their diet requirements were deadly to their own species survival-they were complete carnivores and did not consider fish as food. They only hunted very large/dangerous/deadly game such as mastadons. Many would go out on a hunt, and only a few would come back(alive).

After weaning from mom, they ate nothing, I mean nothing but meat. and probably much of it raw. They alos had no understanding of time passing/ ie. the seasons coming and going on a cyclical cycle. So they didn't prepare for winter times the way homo sapiens did.
