You're welcome Carol!

Thank you all for noting.

Spring is just around the corner for some of us, and I wasn't sure if anyone realized that your seeds may be tainted.

How sad we have lost so many varieties of different fruits and crops !

I will pay special attention to heirlooms this year when I plant. Thanks, Electra - you're feeding my spring fever.

Pamylle many many years ago I discovered there are many organizations around the world that were concerned about loosing Heirloom and Heritage seeds. I believe it was Cornell University that actually started the program to preserve diversity in fruits and vegetables. I wish I could find the original article but here is some good information on many of those programs - http://www.nal.usda.gov/afsic/AFSIC_pubs/heirloom/srb9806.htm#tocv2p4

Thank you all for the comments, and the Notes! :)

Labeling should be Mandatory!!!

My friend Kay pointed out in an email, there is no required Labels for seeds.
I seriously doubt that the seeds are going to be allowed to 'dry out.' These Corporations, and possibly our own Governments, are making huge profits at our expense. I believe that the problem is only going to get worse unless we find a way to stop this.

There are several ways to do this.
Someone could start a Petition,
or we could buy from Heritage/Heirloom seed Companies,
and then there's always Ebay. lol

Hybrids are also a problem and may be bad for the Bees as well, but did you know that a portion of the plants we buy from Nurseries, and it's probably a large portion, are Hybrids?

The FDA is a Corporation, they do not have the Consumers best interest in mind when they make Regulations because they work for the Food and Drug Industry.

Petitions and letters to our Legislators may be in order.

Would anyone be willing to write these up?
I am working on 2 other Petitions right now, or I would do it.

Just a thought.

The thing I like about having a garden is that I can plant variety. I don't have to rely on big company seeds. We need to maintain genetic diversity in our crops.

I agree, and rotating helps as well.
We don't want to deplete our soils of needed nutrients.
If I'd had the money last fall I would've planted a cover crop, instead I'm going to have to add top soil.

I actually make soil, it's easy.
Take a bag of leaves, add water and let them soak for a few days, then poke small holes in the bottom of the bag to drain. Leave them in the Sun tightly sealed.
It takes a long time, but I have gotten the blackest dirt this way, and my leaves don't end up in a non-Biodegradable bag at a Landfill.

BTW, Since they can make plastic bags Biodegradable, why don't they make them all that way?
