PLEASE SIGN, SHARE AND FORWARD TO SAVE ALEX! HE IS THE VICTIM OF TERRIBLE DECISION MAKING AND LOUSY FOSTER CARE! THE VERY DOG RESCUE ASSIGNED TO PROTECT HIM FROM HARM IS PLANNING TO EUTHANIZE HIM! PLEASE TAKE ACTION NOW!

From the petition authors:

To: MAGSR

"To the Board of Directors for MAGSR (Mid Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue):

The undersigned give their signature in support and demand for an appeal to be made for Alex the GSD rescued by MAGSR from a Los Angeles shelter By August 10, 2011.

As his rescue, you have a responsibility for his safety, welfare and health. You have FAILED him several times over.

First, not following 2 vets advice not to neuter till healthier.

Second...to choose to neuter him upon his arrival from a cross country flight.

Third...to place him in a foster home where there were other dogs present and allow him to intermingle freely.

Fourth....to have allowed a Foster to take him to a dog park the next day!! Where he was rolled and snapped at!

Fifth...allow him again to intermingle freely the next day with the foster's other dogs....

How much stress can any dog (much less a dog rescued from a high-kill stressful shelter) be asked to endure without reacting!

Please DO NOT FAIL Alex again. File the appeal for Alex to prevent him from being PTS and/or allow him to go to a sanctuary!"

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

URGENT ACTION REQUIRED! THIS DOG'S LIFE IS HANGING IN THE BALANCE DUE TO ABJECT IRRESPONSIBILITY ON THE PART OF HIS SO-CALLED "RESCUE" AND "FOSTER FAMILY!"

http://www.petitiononline.com/SaveAlex/

SIGN FORWARD AND SHARE TO SAVE ALEX! WE DO NOT HAVE TIME TO WASTE!

PLEASE SEND POLITE BUT FIRM EMAILS TO HIS "RESCUE" AT: BOD@magsr.org

Alex's SAD STORY according to article author Penny Elms:

"Newark, NJ - A recently rescued dog's life is hanging in the balance.

The dog, a German shepherd named Alex, was 'saved' from a high kill facility in Los Angeles, CA. Alex made his way to the East coast where he was taken in by the Mid-Atlantic German shepherd Rescue.

When Alex arrived he had several health issues which needed to be addressed.

Alex was severely underweight and suffering from a painful, chronic untreated ear-infection.

Though the California vets had advised that Alex should not be neutered until he had gained weight and his ear problem was addressed, the veterinarian with his new rescue went forward and he was altered - just days after the cross country flight.

Shortly thereafter, Alex went home with his new foster handler with instructions to keep him quiet - allowing him time to heal.

But the very next day, it is reported that Alex was taken to an off-leash dog park. Though he made it through the outing without serious issue, it was likely a poor move on the part of his foster family.

The foster home had no bond with Alex at this time - his full temperament was not known - and, he was still recovering from surgery and a severe infection.

It is reported that Alex was confronted by several dogs at the off-leash park, but he did not react. No reaction would indicate that Alex is not a vicious, dog-aggressive German shepherd.

The next morning, things seemed to fall apart.

It is alleged that Alex got into a tangle with one of the foster home's dogs.

The foster handler attempted to intervene and in the process, was bitten (rule number one - do not put your body parts into the middle of a dog fight - it will not end well).

Though dog fights are not unheard of - especially when new dogs are thrown into the mix, and especially in light of the stress that this dog had been through with the surgery, illness, and cross country flight - all hot on the heels of being in a stressful animal control facility - Alex was deemed 'dangerous.'

Now, his life literally hangs in the balance.

The board members of the Mid-Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue are torn over whether or not Alex should be saved. Some want to fight for his life - others feel that he should be put down.

Currently, Alex is housed at the Anne Arundel County Animal Control. Unless the board members of the Mid-Atlantic German shepherd Rescue appeal the decision to euthanize him - he will die.

Regardless of the fact that this dog has been in a highly stressful environment - while recuperating from surgery.

A Facebook page has been created for Alex - "Save Alex the German shepherd dog".

Those fighting for Alex's life have also created a petition - you can read more and access the petition at this link.

The individuals who created the Alex Facebook page are pleading for people to email the board of directors at the Mid-Atlantic German shepherd rescue.

If just one board members agrees that Alex's life is worth saving, the rescue will stand a chance of getting Alex released from the county animal shelter.

Polite correspondence voicing your questions and/or concerns can be directed to the rescue at this address:

BOD@magsr.org.

A dog bite should be taken seriously - however, the circumstances surrounding that bite must be taken into account.

Was Alex displaying the behavior of a vicious dog, or that of a dog reacting to a stressful situation?

Was Alex biting due to outright aggression, or was it reactionary and provoked by bad circumstances?

Was the foster handler bitten because hands were in the middle of a dog fight (where they shouldn't have been in the first place)? Or, did Alex seek the foster handler out and viciously attack without provocation?

If nobody fights for Alex, those questions will never be answered.

His cross country trek and pull from a high kill facility will all be for naught."

TY! We lost the fight for poor little Polar.....we cannot afford to lose the fight for Alex! >^..^< M.

MY LETTER TO THE MID-ATLANTIC GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE IN NEW JERSEY. MODIFY IF YOU WISH, BUT SEND! PLEASE ACT NOW! ALEX DOES NOT DESERVE TO DIE BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS RESCUE ORGANIZATION! LET'S BOMBARD THEM WITH EMAILS! TY! M.

SEND COMMENTS TO: BOD@magsr.org

Dear Madams and Sirs:

I will respectfully cut to the chase: ALEX THE GERMAN SHEPHERD MUST NOT BE EUTHANIZED.

The global animal welfare community has learned of Alex's plight and has mobilized to save his life.
The world is watching and cognizant of all the facts that led to his present and deplorable
circumstances. Petitions have been gathering signatures and a FaceBook support page has been
dedicated to his cause.

Your organization was informed up front about Alex's physical weakness and ear infection. MAGSR
was advised NOT to neuter Alex until he gained strength and overcame his ailments, yet your organization
squarely IGNORED this advice and put him through surgery immediately after a grueling flight from
Los Angeles to your rescue in New Jersey against better judgement.

To add insult to injury, you immediately fostered Alex out to a family with existing dogs who squarely
IGNORED your advice to allow Alex to rest and stay quiet after his surgery. To the contrary, this so-called
"foster family" took Alex to a dog park immediately after his surgery and allowed him to run around with
other dogs unleashed. To Alex's credit, being a good dog, he behaved at the park and faired well.

Despite no mishaps at the dog park, things unraveled the next day when Alex---exhausted from his cross-
country commute, raw from surgery and admittedly unsocialized to his new surroundings and "caretakers,"
got into a scuffle with one of the family dogs. Against proper protocol, the owner tried to get in the
middle of the two dogs and was allegedly bitten by Alex.

This family had no business taking Alex to the park so soon after surgery. More significantly, MAGSR
had no right to send Alex into this environment until proper rehabilitation and socialization was implemented
after his surgery. Why your rescue group ignored the recommendation of the L.A. rescue to refrain from
neutering the dog until after he healed from his present ailments is another argument altogether.

Now Alex is languishing in a prison cell awaiting the same fate as he did in Los Angeles while the board
members of MAGSR bicker over whether he should live or die. Why must this dog die because of your poor
judgment?

The circumstances of Alex's imprisonment, and all of the events that led to his current incarceration by
your local animal control, falls squarely on the shoulders of MAGSR. This dog was flown to your organization
to be given a new lease on life, not damned to the same fate he faced in Los Angeles!

YOU HAVE FAILED THIS DOG ON EVERY FRONT....AND NOW YOUR DECISION IS TO KILL HIM!?

YOUR JOB; YOUR DUTY IS TO PROTECT THIS DOG AND GUARANTEE HIM A LIFE OF CARE, SAFETY AND DIGNITY! THAT IS ALLEGEDLY WHY YOUR RESCUE TOOK HIM IN TO BEGIN WITH!

Please immediately send Alex to a sanctuary---a true "rescue" organization---where he will be given the opportunity to properly heal and socialize with other dogs. Alex's life currently hangs in the balance while you debate an "ethical" response to this situation, but so does the reputation of your organization.

Make the truly "ethical" decision to save this dog's life. After all, that was your ultimate goal to begin with.

Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME/LOCATION]

I have spend decades re homing and rescuing "problem" German Shepherds, many of whom were alleged to have aggression issues. In fact, I have a 15 year old I kept who was red zone animal aggressive and she is now with my 3 other shepherds and my cats lying in the living room. Alex is not a red zone case. Alex was mistreated and dragged across the country in pain (I cannot imagine a flight with an infected ear) and then put under, operated upon, left in pain and dragged by strangers to a dog park after surgery and still in pain (where, if he were red zone, he would have attacked then) by someone who either does not know dogs or does not care about Alex. Under a tremendous amount of stress a fight ensued and the same foolish foster that did not properly care for Alex got bitten while breaking up a fight. How is that Alex's fault??? How is it that he should DIE because you all placed him with someone that did not know enough or care enough to treat him intelligently and humanely?

God help all of you for one day you will be judged for how you treat Alex.

Put yourself in such a position & fail to react in any other ways, OMG this poor dog was a saint to have only tried to defend himself from all what he has been put through! I will take him to my home in a heartbeat. I am in Canada so use the funds rather then PTS to transport him to where he will be free, loved & have a life where this injustice ends. All are worthy of justice & a life! Only do to all other beings what you yourself is prepared to experience.

Very sad and it angers me. The the our state solves the many dog problems is by killing them very sad they find an easy way out! This is no solution is just a horrible way of never doing the right and human thing! Wich is to rehabilitate them, help them and finding them homes that are right for the dogs! Signed!

Michelle, thank you for your letter which I have changed slightly. You should not be rude or aggressive nor insult people that volunteer for the rescue.

I foster and have had many dogs who believed that they were boss and often were aggressive. This is usually . insecure dominance and can be dealt with easily. Alex doesn't sound like that nor does he sound like he's aggressive. It sounds like he was in pain, distress & fear because he was attacked. The fosterer should not have allowed this to happen and never to grab at a dog in a fight. She/he was totally at fault, not Alex.

Hi Gillian. Green star to you! Sincere thanks for modifying and sending your own version of my
comments to the MAGSR Board of Directors.

Indeed, you are correct. Correspondence should never be "rude" or "aggressive," as we all here
at Care2 rightfully understand.

My letter is neither rude nor aggressive, but direct and firm. Sentiments in the letter I sent
reflect my own thoughts on Alex's transfer to MAGSR and how they handled him. Those
sentiments are based on facts provided at examiner.com and the petition posted. Many of
these sentiments are shared by fellow Care2 members through no obligation.

All Care2 members are free to voice their own opinions and concerns at any and all times, none of
which are obliged to reflect the words and ideas of others.

Thanks again for your kindness and dedication to animals. Sincere gratitude to all that have voiced
their support for saving Alex from execution. I hope with all of my heart that MAGSR does what is
right and appeals his pending execution.

UPDATE FROM THE PETITION AUTHOR SUSAN, WHO I CONTACTED TODAY!

PLEASE READ!

SOUNDS LIKE GOOD NEWS FOR ALEX!

NOW MAGSR NEEDS TO PROVE TO THE COUNTY BOARD THAT ALEX SHOULD BE RELEASED! LET'S VOUCH FOR THEM AND THEIR EXCELLENT DECISION TO APPEAL! CONTINUE TO SIGN AND KEEP THE BALL ROLLING! TY! >^..^< M.

"Hi Michelle......

The petition so far (its still open to gain continual support for Alex) was sent to MAGSR and the Anne Arundel County board. Wanted to let you know that MAGSR did file an appeal! They reached an agreement with Diamonds in the Ruff Rescue to transfer Alex to them. DITR will then transfer Alex to Rescue Helpers, INC in AZ. Now that an an appeal is filed, they will need to show the County Board that Alex should be released.

Thanks
Susan"

This poor baby's plight is as a direct result of "human" stupidity and ignorance. WHO approved these morons as "foster-parents" in the first place? WHERE did those who took the decision to neuter Alex qualify in their profession? Was it via the mail from within the confines of a prison cell where they were serving time for animal abuse and murder??? It seems to me as if the whole world is infected with these imbeciles, and we have to root them out and get rid of them (permanently) - or else dogs like Alex and millions of others with suffer the consequences of the sub-species plague!

After reading the account from the foster, I was shocked. She made every mistake I can imagine and set poor Alex up for failure. "The dominate Handler that I am" I would have bitten her too. What jackwagon leaves a prong collar on a dog for two days?? She didn't even have time to ascertain if he needed the prong or not,She put a stressed dog who was supposed to be kept quiet in the thick of activity w/off leash dog park, pack walks. Who on earth would put that idiot in charge of Alex? .I work rehabbing Pit Bulls and I would never EVER put a dog I am unfamiliar with in those situations. She wants to be alpha, with pain. Respect is earned, and she broke trust with him. This is no dangerous dog,he was set up for failure at every turn and deserves a real rescue seemingly from you. Please do the right thing, euthanize the foster and give Alex the chance he so deserves. .

Update from Susan, the petition author:

"Michelle, at this time Alex is not available for adoption. He remains in Anne Arundel County Animal Control labeled a dangerous dog. Unless he can be proved to have not bit, he is not an adoption candidate. It is our hope that his defense can show he should not be pts and given a second chance if it gets that far. We are hoping that an agreement can be presented that he go to a place that has worked with aggression issues successfully which Rescue Helpers is one.

Henriette sounds like a wonderful person. I am sure any dog that she would decide to rescue would be in the best of hands with her. There are so many in shelters that need a loving home, especially the bigger dogs. I am glad to see another older GSD around, people thing I am nuts when I say that my first GSD lived to be 19 years old!

Susan"

We need to continue placing pressure on MAGSR to make a strong case for Alex! Alex is not a BAD DOG!

Alex is a GOOD DOG that was mishandled by POOR CARETAKERS!

Many people feel drawn to advocate for animals because even though they can feel pain and suffer just as we do, they do not have a way to advocate for their own welfare. In fact, animals are viewed by many as nothing more than property to be treated however the owner wishes. This view has created an inhumane situation for billions of animals that share our world.

For every action there is a reaction. According to the law of karma, if we cause pain and suffering to other living beings, we must endure pain and suffering in return, both individually and collectively. We reap what we sow, in this life and the next, for nature has her own justice. No one can escape the law of karma
