Nebraska Senator Louden claims to have seen half a dozen mountain lions on his property & is now introducing a bill that would make it easier for residents to kill lions. There has never been an attack on a person or domestic animal in Nebraska. ACT NOW!

I've been a member of The Mountain Lion Foundation for well over two decades.

Please visit their web site, make a much valued donation, and become involved with the preservation and protection of these magical beings.

They are under serious threat in California, Nebraska, the Dakotas and other states who want to see this important predator eradicated due to hunting interests and ignorant hysteria.

As I type, a Mountain Lion kitten orphaned by the killing of its mother and two siblings.....all over the fact that the mother killed a deer, dragged it into the brush and rightfully attempted to feed it to her family close to a human community.....is wandering through the streets of a California town and starving to death. A certain target for the fate its mother and fellow cubs suffered. All due to ignorance and hysteria. Absolutely mind numbing.

You can help turn the tide against the hysteria that is causing the killing of these beautiful cats. Read the stories provided at this link and become a member. Take action against the Senator in Nebraska who wants to demonize and kill off the twenty...TWENTY!....remaining mountain lions in NEBRASKA.

Join me in advocating for the protection of these magnificent big cats.

PLEASE TAKE ACTION! MODIFY AND SEND A MESSAGE TO SENATOR LOUDEN DEMANDING HIS PULL THIS RIDICULOUS BILL TO KILL THE TWENTY REMAINING MOUNTAIN LIONS IN NEBRASKA!
CLICK ON THE LINK ABOVE, SCROLL TO THE STORY, AND GO TO HIS LINK AT THE NEBRASKSA SITE. TY!

Senator Louden:

The global animal welfare community is shocked at your move to kill the only twenty remaining mountain lions in your state without legitimate basis or scientific cause.

Last month, one of Nebraska's rare mountain lions had to be euthanized after sustaining severe injuries from being caught in a steel-jawed leg hold trap. She was one of only a handful of female lions believed to live in the state. In a
population of just twenty cats, breeding-aged females play a crucial role. Residents saw this loss as a huge setback in the species' recovery, with many wanting a statewide ban on the traps and an increase in protection laws for mountain lions. State Senator LeRoy Louden, however, has continued his push to kill off the cats.

In 2010, you, introduced a bill to reclassify mountain lions as "predators" on the same list as opossums, coyotes, and skunks, among other "unwanted animals" and to allow ranchers to freely kill mountain lions on their property without needing permits or having to contact the game agency first. It passed. Now, you are taking it one step further with Legislative Bill 928.

I am utterly appalled that if passed, LB 928 would allow the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission to open an annual trophy hunting season on mountain lions.

May I remind you sir, that there are only TWENTY LIONS in question! May I also remind you that Mountain Lions do not attack or threaten humans unless they themselves
are under attack or their cubs are in danger. Your so-called "hunters" and "sportsmen" pose a greater threat than they do, by far. Thus far, not a single human has ever been harmed
by a mountain lion in your state yet you are moving to openly call for their eradication based on what? HYSTERIA and BLOOD LUST.

The public and even some Game & Parks employees are shaking their heads, saying it's far too soon to think about allowing the public to kill the cats for sport. There are only twenty lions after all, and less than 5% of Nebraska residents are hunters--with just a fraction of those interested in hunting a big game species. There is a massive pile of actual important issues you should be focusing on such as job creation which, along with child welfare reform, are stated on your website as being the "top priorities in this year's session."

Instead, you are trying to push a bill that would promote the extermination of a species--one that should currently be listed as state-endangered.

You are not only wasting time and resources, sir, with your mountain lion trophy hunt scheme.

You are showing a blatant disregard for the views of the people you were elected to represent.

Not only your own state citizens but citizens across America and around the world demand that you put a halt to your plans to wipe out these big cats and remove the bill.

Thank you Michelle for all your hard work for our animals!!!! Our wild cats are in danger and most don't seem to care. i have no answer for the apathy. It is like the mustangs, when they gone, the uncaring will say they didn't know.

Very neat website and organization Michelle! Never heard of it before. Tons of info on it. Jeez, there's so few mtn. lions in the U.S. they should be completely protected.
I hate hunters and trappers. Let someone hunt and trap their pet dogs.

Interesting. In a state where lions are still very. very rare, Senator Louden has seen at least twenty on his property alone. Park rangers, forest rangers, wildlife biologists, conservation officers and hunting guides who live and work in areas where lion numbers are high are lucky to see one or two in their lifetime that wasn't treed first by dogs or caught in a live trap. The Senator has really good luck and really sharp eyes.

If mountain lions are too near someone's property it may be because someone's property is invading the mountain lion homes....Mr. Senator must be something special to have seen so many of these amazing animals that like to avoid people and stay safe.....wonder if he is doing something to try and attract them?!

Noted, Signed, & Shared! How sad that these animals are now being persecuted! Mountain lions usually are reclusive and stay away from people. This Senator sounds like he's just looking for an excuse to pass a law to make it easier for trophy hunters to shoot them! There cannot be that many of these animals left. And if these trophy hunters have their own way and senators who could care less about our wildlife keep getting elected this great cat could become extinct! It is disgusting and shameful that many of our Senators are becoming nothing but the puppets of hunters, and the NRA!
