When are humans going to start treating animals the way God intended us to? This poor elephant needs to be released & his handler needs to be put in prison for abusing him. I thought the people of India respected all life, not just human life. I guess I was wrong. Thank you to Paul McCartney for speaking up for Sunder & bringing his plight to our attention. I pray that he will be released soon.

This situation, as well as the Temple Tigers of Bangkok and elsewhere, leave a horrible taste in my mouth...

I am trying not to give up, and I won't, but it seems there are so many cases like this one. The trouble is, we sign and sign and sign petitions but rarely do we ever get the results of those signed. How about a lot of feedback and ongoning information through Care2 so we know how these issues are progressing or resolved.

BABY ELEPHANT TO BE REMOVED FROM ABUSERS

We have exciting news about Sunder, an abused baby elephant who has captured the hearts of people worldwide, including Paul McCartney. Thanks to the ceaseless work of PETA India and PETA-supported Animal Rahat, Indian officials today issued an order that Sunder—who is covered with wounds from beatings and whose eye was injured with a bullhook—is to be taken from the temple where he has been held captive in spiked chains and placed in the custody of the forestry department.
Sunder will be transferred to a forest camp, and from there, hopefully he can be moved to a sanctuary. Thanks to everyone who responded to PETA's action alert urging the forest minister to take action! PETA India's chief veterinarian, Dr. Manilal Valliyate, and PETA India's staff on the ground there won't stop pushing until Sunder is with a herd and free from abuse!

In spite of a ministerial order to release Sunder, influential temple people are refusing to let the elephant to go to a sanctuary. This is awful news. If anyones able to contact Paul McCartney & Pamela Anderson, tell them of Sunders situation, maybe they can exert pressure to release him, or even buy his release from these cruel people that keep him in spiked chains and beat him with bull hoks
